It was my third trip to the bishopstrow in about a month. Room one is true, abject luxury and the bathroom is to die for! But the absolute crowning glory of the bishopstrow is the staff and customer service. Nothing is too difficult or unreasonable a request. Cannot recommend more highly.

I went for the day with my sister, having booked a special spa package that included a frangipani wrap and facial, the Rasul mud treatment and lunch as well as use of the spa facilities. We had a lovely relaxing day, this very much helped by the positive and friendly attitude of all the staff we encountered. Nothing was too much trouble.

We loved the relaxation room, our only criticism being that the sound from the spa reception area carries into that room really clearly, so if you really wanted to relax you would need to don the headphones provided. That said, we loved the couches and cushions, the selection of magazines, the supply of chilled water and self-service herbal teas.

It was good to have decent sized lockers for our belongings, and to be provided with robes, towels and slippers at no extra charge. The changing rooms are a little small, but we didn't feel cramped at all. The mud treatment was entertaining to say the least! You are shown what to do and then left to apply the mud yourselves. You can lock the door so can wear as little as you like for this purpose. It's all set to a timer so having applied the mud to each other you then sit and wait for the steam to start. This lasted just long enough for us, then there came a gentle warm rain shower. After that we used the shower cubicle provided to wash off the remaining mud before drying ourselves off and going in search of other spa fun.

We felt that the spa facilities offered were good, and really enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi, both of which were almost empty - we may have just been lucky with our timing! I also had sole use of the steam room and jacuzzi, both of which were nice and clean. The monsoon shower between the two was an experience in itself and gave us much amusement to hear (while we were some distance away in the relaxation room) the distant screams of someone using it on the sea mist setting - which is actually more like standing in a hail storm than sea mist!

We were asked to pre-order lunch on arrival, and this was served to us in the conservatory that overlooks the lovely grounds. We were assured that wearing our robes was fine, but did nonetheless feel rather conspicuous entering the restaurant area, which was full of guests gathering for a wedding anniversary party! It would be good to have a more discreet entrance for spa guests to use between the spa and conservatory. I had ticked the wrong choice for my starter, but is was kindly sorted out for me without any fuss at all, and we both very much enjoyed the two course lunch accompanied by home-baked rolls.

The icing on the cake had to have been the body wrap and facial! Warm scented oil is poured onto you and massaged in before you are wrapped in foil and a towel, while enjoying a head, neck and shoulder massage and facial. You are then left to shower off the oil before moisturiser is massaged on. This experience was sublime and my therapist, Charlotte, was so skilled at her job that I nearly fell asleep. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed, exactly what I had hoped for from the day.

Apparently the spa is undergoing some renovations, so it would be good to go back to see what it is like after this. One minor issue that we would like to see improved would be the route from reception/ restaurant to the spa, as the corridor looked rather tired and was used to house some surplus furniture during our visit. Some more signage in the whole spa area would be helpful. I wonder how many others have opened that store cupboard door as they looked for the door back into the spa reception area after their treatment?!

All in all a lovely day and we will certainly look forward to returning in the future. It would be lovely to enjoy the hotel's garden as well as see more of its interior.

Stayed on 8th February in room 19. Check in was quick and although we were early with half hour our room was ready. Staff friendly and helpful. Room was quirky split level design lovely facilities in room.
Spa however a little disappointing as hot tub out of use in afternoon and outdoor pool and facilities a little tired. The layout was also a bit disappointing as facilities were spread out. Our main aim for the trip was to make full use of the spa and we felt it was not as relaxing as we had hoped.
in the morning we had trouble with our shower. Member of staff visited room but could not repair. However he did offer to see if there was a spare bathroom we could use. My husband declined as fid not want hassle of moving our things as we were only staying one night.
So overall would say helpful staff, lovely surroundings, good food but a few issues did reduce our enjoyment. If room and spa had been in full working order I am sure my review would be more positive.

I am pleased to read that overall you had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the newly refurbished bedrooms and public areas.

I am sorry to read that the hot tub was out of order on the day you visited, but I am pleased to report that it was fixed as soon as possible and is now back online.

The halcyon spa is about to start a refurbishment of the gym which will encompass the top facilities in lifestyle fitness and other areas of the spa are ear-marked for refurbishment later in the year.

The hotel was very reasonably priced and the whole booking procedure was smooth, with regular contact from the reception team. Arrival check-in was quick, even though we arrived very early, and the room was superbly prepared. The Superior Room (Rm1) was spacious and furnished in a modern style but in line with the property. The bathroom really had the wow factor and the centrally positioned tub and monsoon shower combi was fantastic. The restaurant and food are comparable to any good one in central London and the staff were attentive without being obtrusive. The hotel boasts 2 sitting rooms, both cosy and inviting with a large open fire, and are perfect for relaxing whilst playing the boards games that are provided by the hotel.
The spa was basic but still enjoyable. Some modernisation with a little imagination would greatly improve the experience. Space is limited in comparison to other spas, with especially small changing rooms, but the treatments were excellent. The Rasul mud treatment is an indulgent must, especially for couples, and was great fun.
Overall, we`d definately book again.

Room Tip: Room one was great, can`t comment on the others.

Just returned from a lovely night away at the Bishopstrow Hotel and Spa. Room was superb with all the mod cons (we stayed in Room 20, downstairs in the stable block), Would recommend that that you stay and eat in the restaurant for at least one night of your stay - the food was divine and service was excellent. The Spa itself was fantastic - lots of choices of therapies and would thoroughly recommend their signature treatment, one and a half hours of bliss! Beware of the rainforest shower as the monsoon setting is a bit of a surprise!
We'll be definitely be back.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the main house. We stayed in the Stable block which can be reached through the...

We arrived early before our check in time on the Saturday, and were greeted with a friendly welcome, a tour of the facilities and were told we were able to make use of the spa facilities while we waited.

Food
We ate lunch in the restaurant, which was delicious - the soup of the day was especially good and great value for money. A three course evening meal in the restaurant was included in our package from spabreaks.co.uk,, although a cheaper all day menu was also available. The food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Service was polite and friendly. Breakfast in the morning was included. The continental breakfast was sufficient for me (fruit, pastries and yoghurt - warm fruit juice was the only let down), but the cooked options looked clean and tasty and were also included in the price of our room.

Facilities
After making the most of the spa in the afternoon with a massage, swim, jacuzzi and steam room we felt thoroughly relaxed. The spa itself was clean and peaceful; the staff were friendly and professional. Robes, slippers and lockers were provided free of charge for the day. We had one treatment included in our package, and would normally have booked extra treatments but they seemed more expensive than other spas we've visited.

The lounge areas provided a lovely setting to end the evening, with a log fire that was very welcome on a snowy weekend. One of the lounges seemed more family friendly, but the other was quieter.

Room
We stayed in room 4, which was well decorated and spacious. Lots of toiletries were provided, and an iron was brought up quickly when requested. Our room was very warm, with a lovely view and big bathroom. A new coat of paint was needed in the bathroom on closer inspection, but the bedroom was beautifully decorated. The bed was big and comfortable. The only downside to the room was the fact that we could hear the extractor/shower from another bathroom in the morning, but this wasn't enough to stop us going back to sleep! We were especially impressed to find that our room had been cleaned in the evening while we were downstairs eating dinner.

All in all, the hotel was perfect for a romantic and relaxing weekend. With the package we got from spa breaks it was definitely great value for money. We would definitely return in the future, either for a spa day or weekend break.
