“Another good stay at Hunters Moon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2014

We have been visiting Hunters Moon for several years at first with our children and latterly as a couple. The setting is good with the lakes, wild life and country walks. The lodge we stayed in met our needs and had all we required. The meals in the bar were very good. Also, there is free Wifi in the bar plus a big, drop down ,screen for football and other sport. I cannot speak highly enough of Nick and Sandy who are friendly, helpful and knowledgable about the local area.Role on next year for another visit.

just returned from a 4 night stay at hunters moon. Very relaxing and quiet Nick and the staff very friendly and enjoyed a meal in the restaurant which was excellent. Also got to play bingo with the locals every monday evening, very friendly people. Lodge was very good, nice and warm and everything that we needed for our stay. Visited longleat safari park and house an excellent day out. Will return in the autumn.

The lodge is set on a beautiful rural area! However the inside could do with some work, the sofa was broken and the furniture was miss match! But the kitchen was up to standards! It was cold when we visited and struggled to keep warm as there was only 2 electric heaters! For the price we payed you would expect that it would include the electricity and towels! We also found the pillows and duvet were poor quality and the sheet didn't fit the bed! We didn't have any welcome information when in the lodge, which would of helped! Hunters moon has great potential but if it stays the same we wouldn't return.

having stayed here on two previous occasions I expected more. the quality has really fallen. the cabins are looking tired, the furniture is not the most comfortable and the cabins are poorly equipped. my wife and I went for the fishing which is practically non existant. there are three lakes that are woefully under stocked. the owners are very friendly and helpful. but seem to have no idea how to run the site. on our first visit the duck population was huge and they were at times a nuisance but made the place interesting.as they would come up to you and take bread from you'r hand alas now the population has been decimated and they are very wary. duvet's are small and barely cover the bed. for those of you planning a fishing trip. remember these lakes are at best 3 ft deep and when float fishing I was fishing in 2 ft of water. my advice is don't no seriously don't.

I am perfectly happy with basic accommodation. However, this was not basic. It was just plain cheap! On arrival, we we're put in a "lodge" that wasn't the one we'd seen online and booked. Apparently, there are several lodges each of the same name, so what you see will not be what you get. We spent the first 30mins after our arrival collecting dog excrement from in front of the lodge. The lodge itself is a wooden build. The kitchen was tiny and ancient, the bed and bedding was archaic, and the sort of thing you wouldn't even expect at a uni campus. You pay for hot water and heating at a premium, so factor this in. The location is quite nice, with a pretty view over a very small pond with ducks, despite the noise from the dual carriage way, which is the only reason this place get 2 stars. Be prepared to visit a supermarket in advance, as you will have to provide even your own essentials, eg washing up liquid and sponge, soap for the bathroom, etc.... This place could be made much better with a little investment from the owners, but they clearly are happy to charge a premium and not reinvest a penny back into the place since what appears to be the 70's.

I had my 40th Birthday weekend at the Hunters Moon and Nick and sandy were fantastic. They were very helpful and I would recommend them and the Hunters moon to anyone. I had lots of friends and family staying in the Lodges whilst on the saturday evening we had a gathering in the the bar/.restaurant. It was a really lovely evening with a great family atmosphere thanks to the fact the site is dog and child friendly. The hot buffet was also very good indeed and all my friends and family have been saying what a fantastic time they had.

We stayed here for 3 nights. It only cost about £115 to stay in the Beaver lodge. It was mainly used as a base while we explored the wider area so I can't comment on the fishing which seems to be why many people stay.

There are many positives to this place. The location is beautiful, there are woodland walks close by and the lodges are right on the lake. Its also very convenient for town and Warminster is an excellent location for commuting to the surrounding attractions. Also the staff were lovely, cabins were clearly cleaned well and the grounds kept very tidy and tranquil.

However, there are quite a few negatives which really make me want to reduce this review to a 2 out of 5 rating. I realize that I did not pay a huge amount to stay here, but I really would've expected more. We stayed early October 2013 and it was beginning to get a little chilly. The cabin has only electric heaters which are on a meter (meter wasn't too expensive: spent about £3 while there), and they simply do not heat the cabin. The walls and windows are so old that they can't contain the heat. if you're staying in autumn or winter, get a newer lodge otherwise you'll freeze in your sleep. Furthermore, the facilities are extremely poor. The kitchen is from the 80's, the curtains are plagued with mold, the sofas and mattress are all sunken and you get coils poking you in the back while you try to sleep. Finally, this lodge is listed as a 4 person 2 adults 2 children lodge. It isn't. The second bedroom is tiny, it has a bunk bed which compromises of a small bottom bunk and a box on the top that would barely fit a 3 year old.

Room Tip: "not really big enough for families" "go in summer"
