“We couldn't have picked a better place to stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2013

We have just returned from a week's B&B at Water's Edge in Portstewart to walk the Causeway Coastal Way (Portstewart to Ballycastle) and visit Rathlin Island, taking the risk on Northern Ireland weather in early October! We not only completed the coastal walk and trip to Rathlin with hardly a shower in sight, but the other days were filled with more fantastic views and walks all from the recommendations of our warm hosts Ernie and Ann. The accommodation was perfect, a comfortable and spacious room and ideally located 10 minutes walk from Portstewart centre. We were provided good hearty breakfasts, the benefit of local knowledge to plan our itineraries and whilst we had our own car, we were very grateful for the transit provided allowing us to break the 30 or so miles into manageable stages across 3 days. Will we be back?........you bet!

“The perfect place to stay on the North Coast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013

We stayed with Ann and Ernie for a couple of nights during our recent visit to Northern Ireland. We couldn't have wished for a warmer welcome or a more perfect location, the views are superb with a beautifully decorated room and bathroom with every detail thought of. We had our 3 year old daughter with us who absolutely loved our stay especially Ann who was so kind and gave her extra books to read! Ernie was an excellent guide, providing information on the best places to visit including hidden gems off the beaten track. The strand beach is a wonderful place for a walk and what a treat to see oystercatchers within a couple of minutes of the house. We really can't speak highly enough of the wonderful time we spent here.

“Close to the sea and the wide horizon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

This comfortable B&B must have one of the best views of the North coast. The sea and the long beach are a few steps away. Watch the waves rolling in from the comfort of your room or the lovely blue sitting room with the covetable bay window that catches the evening sun. Ernie and Ann made our stay most comfortable. The healthy breakfast was served with delicious jams and local wheaten bread. We didn't have time to do the walks this time but will be back!

“Walking the Causeway Coast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

We selected Walking Tours NI because they were local to the Causeway Coast and offerred an attractive and flexible self guided walking package which is what we were seeking. The stay at their B&B was absolutely perfect, and by stepping out the front door, one was on the coastal track. Ernie and Ann provided excellent breakfasts, and professional guidance for the each days walking. Dropping off and picking up was easy. Their reccomendations for evening meals in town were good, and we enjoyed the quarter hour walk there and back each night. In the lead up to this visit, we had been on a 8 week walking holiday in Austria, Switzerland and England. This visit rated the best.

“I cannot imagine staying anywhere else along the northern coast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

My wife and I stayed with Ann and Ernie in June 2013 for three nights and two days of walking the coast. It was a wonderful experience that I highly recommend.

The location of their B&B is perfect—on a residential road that runs along the beach where there are unobstructed views of the ocean. One can easily walk into the center of town in about 15 minutes by following a walkway winding along the beach, so there is no need to drive if you plan to have a Guinness or Bushmill or two during the evening.

As others have described, breakfasts were large and hearty, but there was also cereal, fruit and yogurt as alternatives (or even supplements) to the full “Ulster fry”.

Ann and Ernie are exceptionally good hosts and consistently exceeded our expectations. For example, after a discussion with maps to see what type of hiking we were interested in, Ernie made spot-on recommendations, then suggested that we borrow his maps and small binoculars to take along on our walks. The walks were magnificent, covering 14 miles in two days.

The only minor caveat that I need to make is that our room did not have the expansive ocean view that some other reviewers describe. It did have an ocean facing window about 1 foot wide and 4 feet high in the left corner of the room, but one pretty much had to stand directly in front of it to get an ocean view. There was also another window facing 90 degrees from the first that afforded a view of a distant beach.

On the other hand, the view from the ground floor sitting room bay window is stunning, and guests are encouraged to make full use of the room. One day when we had a bottle of wine, Ernie said that we were welcome to have our wine in the sitting room and, in fact, he provided the glasses.

To sum up, I would not hesitate to stay with Ann and Ernie’s Walking Tours again and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. In fact, I cannot imagine staying anywhere else along the northern coast. I mention the view from our room only so that prospective guests might have an accurate picture of that one room. I would be happy to stay in that same room again, knowing that my stay with Ann and Ernie would be one of the high points of any trip to Northern Ireland.
