“Beautiful room”
Reviewed November 21, 2012 via mobile

Only here for one night but the room was amazing and beautifully done. We had the first floor (red?) room and it was lovely to be able to sit in the window relaxing. While the view is not uninterrupted you can get a glimpse of sea through the houses opposite. Be prepared for the summer traffic in Port Stewart and Port Rush. One small issue was that the TV reception was not great but this may have been resolved by the digital switchover. Breakfast was amazing and just kept coming -there must have been 4 courses! Had a great time and plan to return sometime.

I stayed here for one night after I had visited the Giants Causeway earlier in the day. We arrived to the smell of freshly baked scones and a really warm welcome. The B&B is more comfortable than being in your own home! We were shown to our room which was spacious, modern, comfortable and even had some homemade shortbread biscuits along with the usual tea/coffee amenities.
We were served tea and the delicious smelling scones on the landing with a beautiful view overlooking the beach.
The location was great, could walk to the nearest bar/restaurant and really close to the beach.
The breakfast was excellent, and came with great service, Ernestine chatted to us and made us feel very welcome.
Would recommend this to anyone staying in the area.

Arrived on a Saturday afternoon to a lovely warm greeting from Tom and Ernestine. What can I say about this establishment that hasnt already been said. Nothing. This B and B is absolutely gorgeous. The rooms are modern, comfortable and extremely clean. I could not have asked for anything better. We had a slight hitch with our television. Within minutes Tom and Ernestines son appeared and fixed it. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was the highlight for me. Perfectly cooked and presented beautifully. Please do not hesitate booking this B and B as it is SIMPLY PERFECT. Well done Tom and Ernestine.

Ernestine was SO welcoming...staying up late into the night to welcome me after an 11:00 arrival from Belfast. The room was incredibly spacious. The best shower I've ever had outside the U.S. -- hot and with excellent water pressure. Great breakfasts as you'd expect (my personal recommendation is the French Toast with cheese and tomato). Golfers who've been to Bandon Dunes, it's like staying at The Inn, but with friendly, warm personal service. *Perfectly* positioned about a three wood and a nine-iron from the pro shop at Portstewart and only a 10-minute drive to Royal Portrush. Will DEFINITELY be back here with friends on our next trip.

I stayed in the Strand Guesthouse for one night in August 2012 while on a 12 day tour of Ireland with Vagabond Tours. All of the accommodation arranged by Vagabond for the tour was first-rate, but there was a general consensus amongst the members of our tour group that the Strand was in a class of its own. I have to agree; the Strand really did stand out, both in terms of its exceptional accommodation and the impeccable service provided by its hosts, Ernestine and Tom. Indeed, I can’t imagine that any other hotel or B&B in Port Stewart could come close to matching the Strand’s high standards. The rooms are immaculate, absolutely spotless, and there is wonderful attention to detail in terms of all the amenities provided. Meanwhile, and as noted in other reviews, Ernestine and her husband offer extremely personal, and personable, service. One member of our tour group inquired about, and received, Ernestine’s recipe for oatmeal cookies. Another member’s shoes were carefully stuffed with newspaper to help them dry out more quickly. And then there was the utterly delicious and healthy breakfast, the preparation of which is overseen by Ernestine herself in the kitchen that immediately adjoins the bright and airy breakfast room. All the members of our tour group were loath to leave and, had we been given the choice, would certainly have stayed at Strand House for another night or two. Regarding the town of Port Stewart, although it is situated in County Derry, it can be an excellent base for exploring the northern coastline of County Antrim, a coastline which includes such famous sites as Dunluce Castle and the Giant’s Causeway. In this regard, if you are thinking of making Port Stewart one of your stopovers while touring the north Antrim coastline, then the Strand Guesthouse is unquestionably THE place to stay.

After re-reading this review before posting, one caveat comes to mind. Although I give The Strand my highest recommendation, it occurs to me that it might not be the best accommodation for a family, especially a family with young children. It is perhaps best suited for couples and solo travelers.

If Carlsberg did Guest Houses this would be the one. Everything from the welcome the accommodation the breakfast is wonderful. The Members of our Club take over the whole house and it is just home from home. We cannot rate it highly enough and look forward to returning year on year.
