The location right on the water provides lovely scenery and the atmosphere inside was just as nice. Great service and very tasty food. Would definitely go back again.

“Great location, great service and food”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

Selection of food on the menu, well presented and good value for money. Our friends from England thought the welcome was so warm and genuine - although the restaurant was busy, the service was excellent.

“Good food”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

Staying locally our family group decided to take a trip to the Point Bar at Magillgan Point for an early tea. We'd been there before on a few occasions - first time stopping off after bad weather delayed our ferry to Greencastle where we had planned to eat - but not for a few years.

One major bonus this place has is its superb location. Wonderful views all around and right next to the beach which is ideal for a stroll before or after you eat. And I'd recommend the viewing point at Gortmore on the Bishops Road for some magnificent views over the point and beaches.

Now this place doesn't offer "fine dinning" and it doesn't make any claims to, but the food here has always been great. This time two of us had pan fried salmon, one the chicken thai curry and two kid's meals (pasta and chicken nuggets). All superb - and one of us ordered a side of champ which she couldn't manage (and was helpfully given a box to bring it home in for breakfast!). All was good with the main course food - it arrived quickly, was generously portioned and was delicious. All plates were emptied!

Despite sated appetites we still managed some desserts - we'd recommend the home made apple tart and the Malteser cheese cake - but there seems to be a changing sweet menu so you may have a different choice.

Drinks were good - try the stout - and the service spot on.

In terms of food the only low point was the deep fried brie two of our group had for starters. It was in a batter (rather than crumb) and was a bit greasy. It could also have benefited from some seasoning. But the other starters - prawns, garlic bread and seafood chowder were really good.

The menu has a good range of dishes - including vegetarian choices.

We were there at teatime at the start of the week - and by 7pm the place was packed. This added to the great atmosphere, but its probably a good idea to reckon on maybe having a wee wait to get a table.

I'd recommend the Point Bar if you want some good food, that isn't too expensive in an informal setting.

“Great relaxed meal”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Right next to the ferry landing; had a great, relaxed meal here with family. I had a cod special that was great, the ladies all had salmon which was excellent. The prices were reasonable and the service was good. Not fine dining, but certainly an excellent meal in friendly, relaxed surroundings. Restaurant and bathrooms were spotless, would certainly go back.
