The Stag at Redhill
Ranked #2 of 8 Alcester B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 26, 2013

This lovely old pub has recently undergone a refurb and looks very classy. However quickly disappointed as the standard of food served has dropped considerably, it now serves general pub grub which could be greatly improved by taking a few simple measures - presentation, making sure food is hot and fresh veg being a few. Such a shame as it has great potential and could be a cracking place if the food was of a better standard. Sadly wont be going back.

I am sorry to hear the service and presentation of the food did not meet your standards. We as new managers are putting in every effort to retrain all the kitchen and front of house staff to ensure quality is kept to the highest standards. We would not want that to spoil your enjoyment of the Stag, and hope that you will return.

Went for lunch today. The menu was varied and infact struggled to choose due to the amount available. The food took quite a while to arrive, we thought due to it being cooked from fresh. The food was disappointing. Some parts of the meal were cold as if they had been defrosted and then heated through but not thoroughly. The puddings were nice and averagely priced however despite not being very busy again took a very long time to get to our table. The pub looks very inviting from the outside and the interior is clean and a mix of traditional and modern. If only the food was a little better and the service a little quicker it could be a great place to visit.

I am sorry to hear of the slow service you received at the Stag, I have had a meeting with the kitchen staff to ensure that waiting times are kept to a minimum. I hope to see you at the Stag again soon.

Decided to try this place on a "spur of the moment" type thing....wasn't disappointed. Staff very friendly and very welcoming. Food was good and cheap. I heard while I was there that the owners are quite new and they had had a few hiccups. I'm sure with their courteous manner and positive attitude that The Stag will be getting many great reviews.

Checked Valentine menu online for an enjoyable evening with partner and friends for what we thought would be an enjoyable romantic evening, unfortunately on arrival the staff were about as lively as a dead horse in a one-legged race. The bar manager had about as much idea of hospitality as a shop manakin. The furniture looked like it had been bought from a secondhand shop, the bar was poorly stocked, soft drinks which were on tap were off. After finally getting a drink we were shown to our table and within 10 minutes we were moved to another table as they had seated us in the wrong area of restaurant, we were given the valentines menu and the normal menu to which was pointed out that they did not have a full menu of either. After 30 mins of ordering we finally got our starters they lacked presentation and flavour, when the main course arrived 2 dishes were wrong and were sent back when correct dishes arrived food was dry and over-cooked. Desserts were awful. When the bill finally arrived with the manager after a 20 min wait the only excuse he could come up with was that head office and food supplies had been experiencing some difficulties, No discount or apology offered. P.S. to whoever reads this please do not waste you hard-earned money on going to this restaurant.

What a disgusting valentines meal,we got took to our table where the flowers on the table were dead the table was very wobbly then the waitresses said we need to move to the valentines table which was better,it was very cold tho,the service was very slow, starter was ok,the mains were messed up( ladies meals were wrong) so the guys both ate there's but the rib eye was cold then 10 mins later the rite food arrived.i sat very cold wasn't offered any tea or coffee the heater that my husband was sat next to was stone cold, creme brûlée was the best, the passion fruit cheesecake was like eating a slab of cream no taste to it and poured all over was runny cream very poor,The waiter came over and asked if we enjoyed we said no disgraceful and he made up a story with we having trouble with suppliers ( what's suppliers got to do with it) it's too do with the bloody chef.it wasn't busy and believe me won't be returning,

as soon as i entered the place i could smell the toilets.........sat in chairs where the fake leather has peeled of the armrests and they were dirty. Waited for ages for basic non de-script food. Went to complain and saw a staff member eating chips in the kitchen of a customers plate as he carried it out. Awful place what a shame it use to be a nice place to go.

thank god the stag has reopened. i was very worried when the last time i went for a meal with the family the pub was in darkness. we have been coming here for a while now especially on sundays for the carvery. i have also stayed here on business. it has opened with new managers who seemed to be full of enthusiasm. they are going to continue to offer the carvery on sunday and are open for accomodation again. i ate there with a business colleague on friday and the service seems to have got even better. looks like most of the same staff which is good as i always appreciated the good service i had before they closed. the best news is they have got back the old chef apparently and as expected the quality has returned. i had a lamb dish which was presented well and tasted perfect. i also noticed some lovely platters served on wooden boards which looked great. i will definately be back and try one one of them platters. i slept very well in one f the courtyard rooms which were spacious and very clean and tidy. could do with a better shower but over all my visit was most enjoyable based on the incredible service and friendly ambience. oh and the breakfast was great.

Room Tip: dont stay above the pub as can get noisy. courtyard rooms are much quieter.
