Owner description: Coughton Court has been home to the Throckmorton family for 600 years, this finest of Tudor houses stands testament to a family's courage in maintaining their beliefs. From a position of high favour to one of fear and oppression post-Reformation, the Throckmortons were leaders in a dangerous age, helping to bring about Catholic emancipation in the 19th century. Explore this story of fascinating personalities through the 'family album' of portraits and Catholic treasures around the house. Coughton is still very much a family home with an intimate feel: the Throckmorton family live here, managing the stunning gardens which they have created.

I visited the gardens this year and they were beautiful, particularly the walled garden. Allow yourself a few hours to view the garden and grounds (longer if you take in the house). Refreshments are available on site and the food was good and reasonably priced. It's also a good place for the kids as there are play areas and plenty of space for them to run around.

Having lived ‘just around the corner’ in Redditch for +13 years we were well overdue our first visit of this stunning property.
We had a delightful walk around the gardens which for a family of four (two adults and two children) cost a reasonable £17 in total.
The gardens are splendid...even for someone like me who knows nothing about plants, herbs and trees etc. If one does have knowledge I would imagine it to be an engrossing experience.
We didn't go into the house - which I now wish we had - however this can be done on another day. The children really enjoyed the visit which was a real bonus! A nice, relaxing way to spend a couple of hours. Recommended.

Was really surprised at the beauty and extent of the gardens: worth the visit just to walk around and soak up the wildlfe. The house too was a great atmospheric surprise. Beautiful Tudor rooms, furnishings and lighting. The Gunpowder plot assosiations and furnishings in the top room were fantastic. Well worth a return visit

A great National Trust property to visit! - imposing exterior set in beautiful gardens with a fascinating interior. Lots of information available about its complicated history - especially the involvement of the Throckmortons with the Gunpowder Plot. Helpful and friendly volunteer guides!
And one of the family still lives here. Had a good lunch - chicken & ham hock pie, moist and delicious (wasn't keen on the bit of puff pastry plonked on top), steak & ale pie - a glass of wine and a pint of UBU - very good. Well worth a second visit.
