This was our first visit to this area and we couldn't have been more fortunate than to discover "The Cottage". Our room was pleasant, clean and comfortable. Ruth is a gracious hostess and provides a delicious breakfast. A good value; a lovely, peaceful spot to spend a few nights yet easily reached from major roads. The Cottage will be our choice whenever we return.

Getting accommodation in Portadown is getting increasingly more difficult. At least two of the b&bs on trip advisor are no longer trading - Cherryville, Birches Guest Lodge.

This leaves just the hotels which charge ridiculous prices for poor reviews on trip advisor.
In need of somewhere reasonably priced, we discovered The Cottage which sadly had no reviews on Trip Advisor. Moreover, they didn’t have a website. So we went to the property ‘blind’ as it were. We arrived and were escorted to our room. Our first impression was the room was a little cramped but it was clean and tidy. Tea and coffee making facilities were available in the room and surprisingly there was a mini-cooler too. Unlike many b&bs the TV actually worked well and there was spacious wardrobes for all the clothes. The en-suite was also quite spacious with an electric shower but very little in the way of towels. We had a very restful nights sleep in what seemed like new beds. The breakfast was a well organised selection of cereals, toast and cooked breakfast if desired. This was not the best cooked breakfast I had but it was quite acceptable. Residents simply fill in a form specifying which items they want included in their breakfast - a nice touch.
Overall I would recommend the cottage. All of the rooms were upstairs however, which could present a problem for disabled visitors. There were some niggles though. The TV had not got a mains socket and an extension cable had to be used from a wall at the other side of the room. This was not satisfactory and downright dangerous. The electric shower worked well and controlling the hot water did not pose a problem. However, the shower door proved a little difficult to open and close. The Cottage could certainly do with some more attention to detail. Things like an electric clock and more towels need to be provided and accessibility to power points and wifi capability could be introduced to attract both holiday makers and travellers. The property does offer credit card facilities however. I would hope to return to the accommodation again as it was quite acceptable but needs more attention to detail.
