“So so”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

The starters were average. I know Indian restaurants put their own slant on their food but the onion bhajees were disappointing & their meat samosas were bland.

The mains were ok. My lamb vindaloo was fine & the lamb was tender.

Service was initially poor. We were the first to arrive at the restaurant at 1800 & the place was empty but it still took over 15 mins for someone to take our drinks order. The staff appeared to give more time to customers coming in for takeaways. Later on I saw another customer get up & ask the waitress to take their order.

We were asked did we want poppadoms as we sat down. I asked were they complimentary (in some restaurants they are) & the waiter said he did not know!!!! We found them on our bill at £3. Drinks were also very expensive with 2 Cobra beer & 2 cokes at £14. In fact the whole dining experience was expensive with the bill coming in at £50 .

Overall, disappointing.

“Best Indian for miles around!”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

I am a regular customer of Star of India, I am yet to find any fault with it! The food is divine, the prawn puri is simply delicious! The service is faultless, I always am welcomed very warmly, nothing is too much trouble for the staff! If you love Indian food look no further!!

“quite the star!”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

Tasty, efficient, well-decorated with an abundance of choice from a detailed and comprehensive menu, the "Star" is indeed well worth revisiting. My king prawn kasmiri with pilau rice & garlic naan was do die for & will definitely return here
