“Superb Hilltop Lodge.”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

We stayed four days at the end of June visiting family. Hilltop Lodge is superb it is run by wonderful people Iris and Ernie. We were welcomed by Iris who is a lovely lady full of fun and
she settled us down to tea and biscuits in their beautiful guest room. We immediately realised what a great place we had chosen to stay. Everything about this wonderful lodge is outstanding.
We cannot add any more to what other reviewers have said.
We just want to thank Iris and Ernie for their natural friendliness, and making our visit to Banbridge Co Down one to remember.

Hello John and Janice,
Sorry it has taken so long to respond! It's been a busy summer and we are attributing that to the good weather. It was good to read your generous comments about your stay and we enjoyed having you both.
Hoping to see you again,

Iris and Ernie

We stayed at The Hilltop B&B on the 9th August for a few days. Iris and Ernie were very welcoming. The pictures on the website, to be honest don't do the B&B any favours, the building itself is quite grey, just like alot of the other buildings in the area, however, when you enter the house, it is beautiful, solid oak floors, doors and staircase. The rooms are exceptional, beautifully laid out, lovely en-suite. The views are breath-taking. The breakfast was very good, and Iris was a great land lady.

We would have no hesitation, staying at The Hilltop again.

Room Tip: We had the room with the view - and a small balcony.

What a gorgeous place to spend a few days away visiting family in County Down. To call Hilltop Lodge simply a B&B is an understatement, it is much more than that. Even from the booking stage of our trip, I could tell Iris and Ernie were fabulous people who just love what they do. They exude a warmth and friendliness and they are both clearly perfectionists. Their home is simply stunning and unlike other B&Bs, they have provided a guest lounge with comfy sofas and games where you can relax after a busy day of activities. Hilltop Lodge is located in a spot with the most outstanding views of the Mourne Mountains and lush, rolling green hills, it is so tranquil. Our rooms, all pre-booked on the ground floor as my Mum is disabled, were spacious, clean and bright and Mum's room had a wet room shower for ease of use. Quality fittings and furnishings exuded class and there were so many little touches to make the rooms and our stay much more comfortable. I loved finding the pro-hairdryer and decent make-up mirror (thanks Iris). Russel loved the chocolate Eclairs! Ernie is an artist in the kitchen and his Ulster Fry is a work of art on a plate with every item cooked to perfection - the pork and chive sausages were just delicious. We were allowed to reign ourselves in with a clever menu card to select exactly how much each guest wanted in their breakfast, which is a brilliant idea for those of us who need to portion control ourselves and it is also eco-friendly! We had a brilliant stay and I could not recommend Hilltop Lodge or its lovely hosts more highly and I hope they are not already fully booked next time I visit as I really don't want to stay anywhere else :-) Lorna x

Room Tip: Iris showed us the upstairs room with the balcony which was gorgeous and sunny with outstanding view...

We stayed here in May whilst visiting family in the area. Lovely location with superb views and in easy travel distance of the main town and the Mourne Mountains. Belfast is only 30 mins down the road. We had a lovely road trip on a glorious sunny day (unusual weather!) around the Mourne coastal route. It never ceases to impress even though I was born and grew up in sight of the Mournes. Iris and Ernie were great hosts and the quality of the accommodation was very high. Fantastic walk in shower! Highly recommended and I am sure we will return the next me we visit NI.

When we arrived after an exhausting day of sightseeing we were greeted with a friendly welcome and a lovely location. Our room and our view was amazing, we couldn't have asked for anymore. If you are in the area stay here as we have stayed in a lot of b&bs and hiltop has to in the the top 3. Iris and Ernie are lovely hosts and we hope to stay longer the next time we are in the area.

Iris and Ernie welcomed my husband, mother and myself to their lovely home on June 16. They went out of their way to make sure all of us were comfortable, but especially my mum, giving her a ground floor room. We had a wonderful recommendation for dinner, the Halfway House, and slept very well in the beautiful bedrooms. Breakfast was enormous and delicious and, when we had trouble with our sat-nav charger, she sent her son out to help us. The story doesn't end there, when we left my husband's jacket upstairs Iris offered to post it back to the UK for us. She even checked when we would be back at home so it wasn't waiting at the Post Office. Seriously, why would anyone stay anywhere else? This is the best bed and breakfast ever, Thank you Iris and Ernie. Colette, Lisa and Grant
