I stayed here on my way to Newry and would recommend the Downshire arms for combining old-style hospitality and charm with efficiency and comfort. The rooms are big and spotless and amenities include kettle, biscuits, chocolates (!) and bottled water, as well as all the satellite channels you could need. The bathrooms are well supplied, there is secure parking and one of the friendliest bars. There is free wifi for guests and the food is modern bistro style. This hotel has bags of charm and personality, yet it is ultra-clean and comfortable. I would certainly choose this lovely hotel again in preference to faceless corporate 4-stars in Newry.

We stayed here as we were going to the Outlet and so decided to make a weekend out of it. The hotel staff are excellent. Rooms were lovely and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was second to none. The parking was also great. Very safe and gates were locked at night. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would definitely recommend to other travellers. Great value for money.

As a large group travelling with Out and About Enterprises, each of us have experienced on a visit to this hotel, what we can only describe as a delicious culinary event which was really excellence on a plate. On each of our monthly mystery tours we visit a hotel/ resturant within Northern Ireland to have lunch and this one definitely gets top marks and also requests to return to the Downshire Arms sooner rather than later. Don't miss going there if you're in the Banbridge area.

We arrived in Dublin and drove staight to Banbridge. We had prebooked this hotel as a bed and breakfast package. Check in was easy and the parking was nice as we were in a locked gate. We went down for an early supper which was really good and just what we needed after our flight. We went back up to our room for a quick rest as there was entertainment later that night. Went back down around 8:00pm and we were happy we did as the place was packed! We were lucky there were two empty seats at the bar. Service was quick and it didn't take long for the bartender to know what we were drinking. We were never without a drink all night. All of the staff and locals were very friendly. The live entertainment was great! We went to bed late and did not wake up for our breakfast. It was a great first night on our second trip to Ireland.

We stayed in this hotel 21/07/09.We were going to Belfast with our daughter, she was going on business we were just along for a leisure trip
We had prebooked the hotel. We arrived at reception and were greeted by a most pleasant receptionist, check in completed,we were asked had we stayed with them before, when we said no,we were given an explanation where dining room, bar etc were, times of meals and of course where our rooms were. This we found excellent.
Of course we are well capable of finding our way around a hotel but it makes all the difference when the hotel receptionist show that extra bit of guest care that seems to be long gone in the larger hotels
The rooms were large and comfortable, tea tray ,selection of biscuits and bottled water.
Very nice.
The bar is very nice and again the barmen very friendly,we stayed on a Tuesday night so the bar was quiet.
We had to be in Belfast for 10.30 ,so we had breakfast at 08.00.The full Ulster breakfast
is excellent, again a most pleasant lady in the dining room made sure everything was
in order.
Check out proved the same, very friendly and about their business
Location of the hotel for us was excellent,we had just 22 miles to drive ,The only regret we had was that we were not staying another night and have dinner there.
Private secure parking at the hotel is great as well.
Next trip to Belfast we will of course stay here

Stayed in this hotel with my mum for a night before shopping in the Outlet. Arrived in the hotel and were greeted by very friendly staff. The reception area had a lovely open fire going. The hotel had made a mistake with our booking; instead of asking us to share a double they gave us a complimentary single to compensate. Most large hotels wouldnt do this.
The rooms were more than adequate with newly refurbished en-suites. The restaurant was packed with locals, a testiment to the quality of food, atmosphere and value for money. Because we were staying in the hotel we didnt even have to book even though they were technically fully booked.
The cooked breakfast wasn't the most amazing Ive ever tasted but fueled me up for the shopping ahead. There was a good choice of food available including full irish, continental and cereals etc.

All in all it was a perfect way to get the most out of the shops; I couldn't bear sitting in the traffic trying to get in to the area from the south. For the price we paid and service we got I'd do it all again next week.

With christmas around the corner my partner and i decided to tie a romantic night away with a shopping spree in nearby outlet shopping center. Was told when booking that only room available was a twin but that good chance of a double room when we arrived. Alas we could only get the twin which turned out to be a disabled room with a rather large open cold bathroom and somewhat off putting. TV was stuck on one station and hairs in sink on our arrival just added to our dissapointment. We went for a walk and were informed that the front door was locked (unknown reason) so we had to walk the whole way around the outside of the building to pass the front door again. The staff in general were all nice but for £75 a night i would expect more.
