We stayed in one of the smaller cottages for 5 nights and had a wonderful week. I would gladly return. Karen, the cottage manager, was very friendly and helpful. She suggested we order some groceries online and have them delivered before we arrived, which we did, and she kindly put them all away for us. When our children enquired about the small games room (pool, fuzeball, air hockey), she gave them 50p to operate the games.
A bit of a rustic feel to the cottage, but very nice and perfectly clean, and plenty of space. There were 2 bedrooms upstairs. The way they had the beds set up, you could sleep 6. Our 2 children shared one room and my wife and I had the other. They provided a playpen (travel cot) for our baby free and we put that in the hallway. One bathroom upstairs and one down, both with a shower. No hand soap or shampoo supplied, but that is not difficult to pick up. The first couple nights we were there it was cool outside, but the cottage was plenty warm. Also a TV in the living room with a DVD player.
The well equipped kitchen is supplied with practically everything you need (missing a spatula, but we lacked nothing else). A generously sized table was nice when we had 3 friends in for dinner a couple times.
From our window we could look out in the back yard (garden) where the children had plenty of room to run and play; a small playground was there too. The horses come right up to the fence sometimes near where the children played, which was nice. We enjoyed a lovely walk around the grounds where you see horses, roosters, peacocks (they have free reign and come right to your window, and woke us up early one morning with their squawking!)... We got to see some horse jumping as well, which was great.
Another big plus is that Maddybenny is only a 5-7 minute drive into Portush, and a little further to Portstewart. You feel very much like you are in the country, yet only a few minutes from town. You have a beautiful view from the property, and can even see a little of the water.
We planned fairly busy days while there - whether in Portrush / Portstewart, or a day trip on the train to Derry, etc..., but another time I'd love to spend a couple of days just relaxing on the Maddybenny property.
