“Fantastic Week in Cottage, Would Love to Stay Here Again”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

We stayed in one of the smaller cottages for 5 nights and had a wonderful week. I would gladly return. Karen, the cottage manager, was very friendly and helpful. She suggested we order some groceries online and have them delivered before we arrived, which we did, and she kindly put them all away for us. When our children enquired about the small games room (pool, fuzeball, air hockey), she gave them 50p to operate the games.

A bit of a rustic feel to the cottage, but very nice and perfectly clean, and plenty of space. There were 2 bedrooms upstairs. The way they had the beds set up, you could sleep 6. Our 2 children shared one room and my wife and I had the other. They provided a playpen (travel cot) for our baby free and we put that in the hallway. One bathroom upstairs and one down, both with a shower. No hand soap or shampoo supplied, but that is not difficult to pick up. The first couple nights we were there it was cool outside, but the cottage was plenty warm. Also a TV in the living room with a DVD player.

The well equipped kitchen is supplied with practically everything you need (missing a spatula, but we lacked nothing else). A generously sized table was nice when we had 3 friends in for dinner a couple times.

From our window we could look out in the back yard (garden) where the children had plenty of room to run and play; a small playground was there too. The horses come right up to the fence sometimes near where the children played, which was nice. We enjoyed a lovely walk around the grounds where you see horses, roosters, peacocks (they have free reign and come right to your window, and woke us up early one morning with their squawking!)... We got to see some horse jumping as well, which was great.

Another big plus is that Maddybenny is only a 5-7 minute drive into Portush, and a little further to Portstewart. You feel very much like you are in the country, yet only a few minutes from town. You have a beautiful view from the property, and can even see a little of the water.

We planned fairly busy days while there - whether in Portrush / Portstewart, or a day trip on the train to Derry, etc..., but another time I'd love to spend a couple of days just relaxing on the Maddybenny property.

Room Tip: We stayed in cottage 4, which had a view of the play area and a little of the water. I'd say 3 a...

This is our favorite place to stay in Northern Ireland! My husband and I first stayed at Maddybenny Farmhouse B&B several years ago when it was owned and managed by the inimitable Rosemary White and her husband.
Now their daughter-in-law and son, Karen and Fred, continue the tradition of generous hospitality, charming accommodations, delicious breakfast choices, and peacocks in the yard and on the roof (!) in the beautiful, pastoral setting of a wonderfully maintained horse farm. Karen hails from New Zealand and is very friendly and attentive--an absolutely delightful hostess!
Our son and daughter-in-law accompanied us when we returned for a night's stay at Maddybenny Farm in July, 2012. To us, the location of Maddybenny Farm B&B is terrific! It's located very near Portrush, and it's an easy drive to major sites along the Antrim Coastal Road, including Dunluce Castle, Giant's Causeway, and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. We'll be happy to stay here again!

Room Tip: We love the room at the very top of the stairs...Comfortable, charming, and quiet!

I arrived late afternoon and the door was lying open of the B&B so went in and called hello, then rang a bell on a bureau and a very rude young man came out and showed me the doorbell which I should've rang - I apologised and explained the door was open and I didn't realise and he never responded. I had requested a stair gate before arriving and it wasn't installed - easily fixed but had to go back and speak to my unhelpful new friend. The cottage that we stayed in was not 4 star at all. It was tatty, grotty and very uncomfortable with a stale smell in the bed rooms like old cigarette smoke. Some radiators did not turn off and we were very uncomfortable at night. The curtains had holes in them and the seating was very uncomfortable / cushions very dirty etc. It mentioned a gas fire but there wasn't one just electric which was fine but we had pictured a different standard of accomodation - A positive would be the playpark and that it was well equipped with crockery and kitchen equipment. Lets just say we were fortunate with the weather for a few days, had we booked this for a week in the summer we would have left after day one as it was very uncomfortable. This is not a 4 star I wouldn't even say it was a 3, the price of £220 for two nights was not value for money given the standard of accomodation.

We went up to stay in Maddybenny for a weekend and had a wonderful time. We had a great time walking around the farm in the morning and looking at all the animals, they have horses, cows, donkeys, ducks (and ducklings!) Peacocks and Geese.
We then had a riding lesson in the afternoon which was brilliant, the horses were perfect for us as I have never ridden before and wanted a quiet horse but my daugther had ridden a few times and got on really well with her horse Lulu. The instructor was great and explained everything very clearly to us, I would highly recommend the lessons here! My husband didn't want to ride a horse but they had a great viewing area with a vending machine where he could watch us in comfort!! He also got a chance to go for a little walk in the pony and trap as the owner was kind enough to offer him this opportunity.
We are already planning our trip back in Easter time to stay in one of the cottages, and I would highly recommend Maddybenny to anyone else looking for a nice family get away!

Room Tip: Rose Cottage looks amazing and the views over Portrush and the sea are second to none! Amazing!!

Just back from a 2 night break at Maddybenny, 6 of us stayed at Fairythorne cottage and absolutely loved it! There is so much space and wanted for nothing! The owner is really friendly and helpful too. Its in a perfect location, just outside Portrush so is really central without being in the middle of the town! We actually had 3 spare beds in the house as there is so much space! Each room has its own bathroom with really comfy beds. Cant recommend Maddybenny enough & cant wait to go back!

I recently arranged for a group of 40 colleagues to stay in the MaddyBenny holiday cottages and we had an amazing stay. We rented 6 cottages in all, and Karen was able to tell me exactly how many single and double beds were in each cottages right away in order to accommodate the tricky sleeping arrangements. Fairythorn cottage was one of the cottages we rented, and this property was something else - spacious and luxurious!! The facilities were clean and met our needs very well and the cottages were close together which was great. Portrush could be reached in 30 mins walk, but Portstewart was a little far to walk, however a short taxi journey was hardly inconvenient. The accommodation was great for a large group to stay, but I would definitely consider going back for a family stay.
