“The staff makes it nice”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2010

The Ramada is located at the edge of the peninsula at Portrush, Northern Ireland. A new property, it faces the sea to the east across a small park, located in a mixed area off older shops and newer condos. The hotel is a convenient walk from the train station (1 1/2 hour ride from Belfast) and has parking on-premises; taxi's are easy to come by. The staff is very friendly; the front desk team is always ready with a smile or good advice. The hotel caters to business vacationers, either up for a conference or in town for golf. There are good beach walks and world heritage sites nearby: the town has few attractions apart from the harbor area (and the outstanding Harbor Bistro for dinner).

Check-in was handled well and there are elevators to the rooms: the hotel is accessible. Rooms are modern and well appointed, the double bed was comfortable and there was only occasional street noise. There is in-room tea and coffee, safe, cable TV, and (for a fee) wireless internet. The bathroom is clean and bright, but has no hot water: temperature is moderate and pressure was a trickle.

The hotel has a full restaurant and bar with good quality meals, a buffet breakfast is included in the room price. It follows Irish standards (eggs, meats, potatoes, tomatoes, breads) and is abundant: the wait-staff leaves a pot of coffee at the table. The hotel did a good job catering our mini-conference, and the projection and sound facilities in the meeting rooms were good.

This is a good hotel for a retreat or a weekend along the coast. Reasonably priced, good food, comfortable rooms, lots of nature-things enjoy in a splendid setting.

Stayed here for one night recently as needed to be in the area the next day and didn't want to stay in Coleraine. Located centrally, with easy walking distance to the main street and the seaside. Hotel looks out onto the seafront with sea views available, but I booked the day before so my room looked out onto the car park at the back. Friendly staff at reception and in the restaurant, and the food was delicious. Some of the best that I have eaten in a hotel restaurant, and breakfast was great too - lots of choice and nice and fresh. Rooms were comfortable and clean. My only issues were that the saltwater from the sea was all over my window so I couldnt really see out, and my shower wasn't more than a trickle, but I reported this at the end of my stay. WIFI was also pricy at £2 for 20 mins! Would stay here again if I was in the area, and would eat here again too.

To finish off the school holidays we decided on a last minute nihgt away as a surprise for the kids. A hiccup or two on the way but nothing whatsoever to do with the hotel just roadworks and the mini festival at the Dunluce Centre held us back a bit. The Hotel was absolutely superb and the quality/quantity of food the best I`ve had in the Port for a while. All the staff were extremely helpful and always had a smile on their faces. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a stop over on the North Coast. Two minor drawbacks are the lack of parking connected with thee hotel and also air conditioning in the rooms but that is being really picky. Breakfast was buffet style but with a great choice.

We stayed for four nights in August 2010. We arrived to find the carpark full, and this is definitely the main downpoint of the hotel, the carpark is tiny and it was full the whole time during our stay. However, there is plenty of street parking nearby.

The staff however were brilliant. As we were travelling with a small baby we had mountains of stuff with us and they helped us load it up onto a trolley and get it up to our room.

Our room (315) was clean, modern and enormous, with plenty of space for our travel cot, bouncy chair, changing mat and pram, which did not encroach on us at all. This was a huge plus for us. The view was fantastic too. There was some noise from the street, and we slept with the windows open, but being on the top floor meant it did not really disturb us. We did not hear any noise from other rooms or the corridors.

Breakfast was excellent. It was a buffet and was replenished very regularly. There was a large choice, we ate far too much every morning, but this means you dont have to worry about lunch!

I cant think of any criticisms other than the parking, and this was not really a problem. Given the mixed reports I have from family and friends who have stayed in bed and breakfasts in Portrush, at prices not too disimilar from the Ramada, I would definitely recommend you stay here instead.

The Ramada is in a good location on the main street in Portrush. The hotel and restaurant have sea views.

We found the staff to be friendly and efficient. The rooms are bright, modern and confortable - standard hotel room, nothing particularly special, but no complaints. Even though we stayed on a saturday night in the peak tourist season, we did not experience any noise from other guests or outside.

Breakfast is a busy affair, however the hotel does publish quiet and busy breakfast times, so you can chose. Breakfast buffet was standard for this type of hotel. Service was good, and we were impressed by the speed that tabes were cleared, buffet items replenished.

Overall this hotel offers modern rooms which are good value, it ticks all the boxes for a comfortable stay. Would certainly use again when in the Portrush area.
