“Great view!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2010

We had a very nice meal. The food was very good. They have an early menu that is a little less expensive than the regular menu. The staff was great, even tried to make an American style cocktail for me. There was a good variety on the menu.

“I'm not sure where some of the previous...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2010

I'm not sure where some of the previous reviewers ate, their reviews bear no relation to my many excellent experiences at this restaurant.

55 is without a doubt the best restaurant in Portrush, or within driving distance of it. The views are spectacular, the prices are very reasonable and the service is always friendly and efficient- and welcoming to our children too. The food is the real star though, I can honestly say that I've never been disappointed. The food is inventive, fresh and delicious, the portions are just right and the whole experience a far cry from the great heaps of stodge covered with tobacco onions otherwise available round here!

“Very busy but pleasant eating place”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2010

We - a group of five - ate at 55 Degrees North on Sunday 15 August at about 5.30pm. The welcome was friendly, and we were shown to a nice table with lovely views over the sea. The service was very speedy and friendly. The food was - well, OK is the best that I can say, but as a three-course meal for £11.95 (Early Evening Special) it was good value. To start I had a "Smoked Duck Crispy Roll" - a misnomer because the amount of duck in mine was so small as to be microscopic. Others in the party had good home-made Carrot and Courgette Soup. Most of the group had Fish and Chips as a main course - the fish in a crispy tempura-style batter, nice chips and mushy peas - it looked good. I had Thai Chicken Kebabs with Thai Curry and Rice - pleasant enough but overwhelmingly coconut-y to the detriment of any other flavour. Desserts - apple pie, Eton Mess, Ice Cream with Butterscotch sauce - were very plain but tasy enough.
All-in-all that's the best that can be said about it - pleasant enough. It was heaving with people, including numbers of screaming children. The real plus factor is the stunning view out over the sea - on a sunny day like yesterday it was beautiful. but a view doesn't make a restaurant!

“A definite hit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2010

I dined in 55 Degrees North in July this year and had a thoroughly positive experience, it was easily the best restaurant in Portrush following our recent trip. The food was delicious with reasonably sized portions, the staff were polite and efficient, and the view was fantastic. It is not cheap but for the fantastic quality of the food is very reasonable.

“High Prices and Minute Portions”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2010

Recently had a meal with friends in 55 Degrees North. Portions were tiny, ie half of one brussel sprout, half of one helping of soggy cold mashed potatoe, one tiny tiny sliver of turkey (don't know how it was cut so thin) no gravy, no cranberry sauce, no roast potatoes all served in one large oval plate. The so called food was lost on the plate. I will not comment on the starters and desert, it was shameful!!! We waited for ages between each course. The bill was sky high. We left 55 Degrees North much more hungry and guess where we went, next door - Kentucky Fried Chicken - and had a brilliant carry out for a fraction of the price in 55 Degrees. Definately will not be back at 55, but will be back at KFC.
