“First class, a little gem of a place”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

Myself and a group of friends stayed at the Ballylinny Cottages from the 6th to the 9th of March 2014 as we were undertaking the causeyway costal section of the Ulster way. Firstly, I was really really impressed. I, and one of my friends accompanying us, are originally from Northern Ireland but the rest of our party where from the central belt in Scotland and I felt really impressed to bring them to this location (the cottages) to stay and use as a base for our walking break. I can summarise our stay as follows:

Communication - Alan, the owner/caretaker (I think) was first class. From the minute I called to book until we left was always at helpful, pleasant and attentive to our needs. In fact, he went out of his way to guide us in on our arrival as I had got a bit lost in the heavy fog and dark evening.

The cottage(s) - Well, the one we stayed in, Truin, was perfect in every way. Perfectly clean throughout with ample space, fresh bedding and towels and very spacious and comfortable. It has everything you would need from washing machine, dishwasher, T.V. & Radio, cooker, central heating and a nice and cosy log fire burner. All three rooms were en-suite and in excellent condition/décor.

The general area - The complex is in the perfect position on the north coast for some spectacular views out into the Atlantic ocean and the glorious green fields surrounding the local area. The town of Bushmills is in very close proximity (1m approx.), within walking distance. Here in the town you have great little restaurants/cafes and bars, as well as other local amenities. In fact, I would highly recommend the Tartine Café (i'll leave a further review about this on their TA page) It was fantastic and excellent value for money. In addition to Bushmills, the cottages are also within walking distance of the Giants Causeway and it's visitor centre, this is a must for anyone who has never been here before, this is one of the main tourist attractions in Northern Ireland and well worth the visit. Besides that a few other "musts" is the Bushmills distillery (don't tell my Scottish friends, but this place produces some of the best whisky in these isles), and of course the fabulous ruins of Dunluce Castle. Again, all well within walking distance.

I will definitely be returning here again, and seriously, I can not recommend these cottages, and this general area, enough. You won't be disappointed.

Have just returned from a visit to Ballylinny Cottages. Had stayed previously at these cottages but had decided to give it a break as it hadn't been up to standard so hoped this time things would have improved. When we arrived there was no-one to greet us. We eventually got through to the owner on his mobile who advised us that the key was in the door (we were staying in one of the barn conversions) When we entered the accommodation there was no heat on and we couldn't manage to start the gas stove. The housekeeper arrived a couple of hours later (she just walked in - I did think that it would have been good manners to have at least knocked prior to entering!) and advised that the heating was set in a manner that it would come on when the property cooled and that the heat setting would be sufficient to keep us warm. Two hours later the heat still had not come on so we phoned the owner on his mobile (again!!) and eventually got through to him. After a ten minute conversation we managed to get the heat on. However, we were not so lucky with the gas stove as he eventually came to the conclusion that he probably needed to change the batteries in the stove to enable it to ignite!

Cleanliness - unfortunately, this barn conversion was seriously lacking in cleanliness. There were finger marks all over the windows; cobwebs hanging from the ceilings; skirting boards were covered in thick dust; and the floors were also covered in dust and hairs. The sofas are obviously not moved when cleaning as there were pieces of paper and plastic under them. The bedroom that had been allocated to us also contained two large camp beds which took up quite a lot of room - it would be a good idea that if they were not needed then they should be kept in an alternative location. One of the two bathrooms in the barn conversion had about 15 long black hairs lying on the floor and one of the pillowcases on the bed had dried blood on the corner of it. Yes - the bedlinen had been washed but surely if this sort of stain is on a piece of bedlinen then it should be discarded. Towels - these had seen better days! The kitchen was well equipped - however, the splash guards behind the sink and the cooker contained a number of small flies and sand!!
Due to the number of issues that we had with this accommodation we will not be returning to Ballylinny.

Hi spent a week here the weather wasn't kind to us but the bungalow was very spacious and we had a lovely view from the small sitting room, managed to get a coal fire going which was lovely.
Four bedrooms all quite spacious two bathrooms and a large kitchen.
Only thing I would comment on is that the fixtures are quite dated and the Bungalow could do with a bit of modernisation, bit of a tribute to the eighties.
The walks around this coastline are marvellous just be prepared for all weathers and wear sturdy shoes.

Stayed here for a 5 day break in September. Was expecting a cottage but ended up in a loft barn appartment. Loads of room and very well equipped to eat in,but it really needed a good clean! Skirtings were filthy and all the windows had cobwebs across the curtains , towels looked grubby and it all looked very tired. We were expecting a list of local Doctors numbers etc and emergency procedures but there was non .A little welcome note would have been nice as we only got to meet the owner shortly before we left. The cottages / apartments are in a great location, we loved the causeway and surrounding areas and feel the only negative is the cleanliness.

The cottage was great just what we wanted close enough to all the sights but a nice distance out in the country for some get away from it all time. I dont think there was anything in the cottage that had been over looked Alan seems to have thought off everything. We would certainly stay again next time we are that way again.

Beautiful location overlooking ocean and countryside. Close to all major tourist top 5 locations and town centre. To improve on this rating we would suggest better and cleaner towels, a box of tissues, shampoos etc, better basic
guest requirements. Hawks Hollow wi fi was non existent inside, had to sit in the car to get any basic reception. All in all, can recommend a stay here.

We recently spent 2 nights at Ballylinny Holiday Cottages in Bushmills. Our cottage was adorable - the views of the ocean were amazing and Alan was the friendliest person ever! He came to our cottage after we checked in to make sure everything was to our liking and to point out the 'wee freezer' in the closet. We had a lovely visit with him. We hope to return to Ballylinny Holiday Cottages and stay longer for our next visit to Northern Ireland.
