Owner description: The Causeway Coastal Route is a designated scenic tourist drive around the coast of Northern Ireland between the cities of Belfast and Londonderry. The route follows the coast and takes you to several major tourist attractions along the way including The Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Dunluce Castle, The Old Bushmills Whiskey Distillery and the Glens of Antrim. There are also nine scenic loop roads that run off the main Coastal Route. These are: Islandmagee, Slemish Mountain, Glenariff, Glendun, Torr Road, Glenshesk, Bann Valley, Binevenagh Mountain and the Roe Vally. One of these (Torr Scenic Road)is quite narrow so do be careful if your not used to our small roads, one tip is to pull in your wing mirrors on the Torr Road.

Breath taking views. Able to stop any time for pictures rather than a bus tour. We drove to the Giants Causeway

Even though you're driving on the other side of the road, the views are incredible and you can stop quite often so the driver can enjoy as well.

We took a coach tour up the coastal route from Belfast all the way to Dunluce Castle on a coach. Even on a stormy day (wind and periodic rain), the views of the rocky coast were beautiful.

Sometimes you just have to sit back and appreciate what is on your own doorstep. Having decided to visit Belfast for the first time, we drove the 200km up from Waterford in the South East of Ireland, before taking on the Causeway Coastal Route. It was mid-June and we were blessed with warm sunny weather for the duration of the Northern leg of our week long trip. We drove up the coast on a Monday morning passing through Carrickfergus and Larne with the intention of making the Carrick-a-Rede Ropebridge our first stop. Beautiful part of the world with spectacular scenery out towards Rathlin Island and the coast of Scotland visible in the distance. Next we took a pit stop for ice cream in Ballintoy Harbour before encountering the World Heritage site @ the Giants Causeway by descending into the seashore hexagonal maze of pillars and columns. Bar in the car we headed for Derry with a brief pause for photos @ Dunluce Castle perched atop a cliff before seeing the golden beach of Portrush in the distance. With so many sights, stops and activities on this straight forward drive its definitely worth the effort.
