After our group's annual Ballintoy to Giants Causeway walk yesterday, 29/12/12 we, 11 of us went into the Nook for lunch.
A Bad Mistake.
The food was awful. It was a disgrace. Totally tasteless.
The Advisor & I had Irish Stew with wheaten bread at £9.95. As I said TOTALLY TASTELESS. Had to ask for the bread & rec'd 1 measely slice each. The son's girlfriend ordered the Seafood Chowder. Served STONE COLD. It came back, with no apology whatsoever, having been microwaved. This time it was 'SPOT THE FISH'. Virtually none, mainly a bowl of diced carrots &vegetables. The son had one of their burgers. Again flavourless.
None of our walking party had a good word to say for their respective lunches.
The only thing this place has going for it is it's location, right beside the entrance to the Giants Causeway.
I hate to think that the Visitors to the Causeway might feel that the food in this establishment is reflective of other bar/restaurants in the North Coast area or Northern Ireland.
IT ISN'T.
We plan to do this walk again next year but we will not be eating here.

We came here as part of a tour to the Giants Causeway. By the time our tour bus stopped here, we were pretty hungry. The food was decent. The people are nice. The beer was fine too. The price is very reasonable. The place seemed clean. I like that they have a fireplace. After being out in the rain and cold, it was nice to hang next to the pit.

Captive market syndrome. Food was nice but the Beer wasn't up to much and they were lucky we were feeling honest as the queue to pay went out the door!

The idea of going to The Nook is better than the acual experience. We always look forward to lunch in The Nook, but were disappointed with our last visit. There is little provision for vegetarians (only 1 hot meal, no choice). It was a miserable day when we went in but the fire wasn't lit. There was bad pop radio playing too loudly (ie presumably what the staff want to hear). And they've stopped doing any herbal teas at all.
It has such good potential, hopefully it will be better next time, although we're in no hurray to return.

Visited the Causeway and rather than pay the huge amount to park, we went to the Nook for a coffee and scones which we needed anyway and got to park for free.

Its a nice enough place and the open fire was really great. The food looked good, but unfortunately we instead went for coffee and scones and paid a lot of money for a machine latte and capuccino made with water rather than milk. in other words dishwater!

Scones were ok, but werent heated and could have been fresher. Service was a bit surly as well.
