We booked in yesterday for a family mean, there were 13 of us in total and we were all very excited to experience the carvery that we had heard so much about.
All in all the experience was extremely disappointing.
We arrived upstairs to be seated only to be told we had to have a ticket which you acquire from the reception desk, so we were standing waiting for 10/15 minutes while our party each ran down to collect their tickets which we were not aware we had to have with us.
we were seated and went up to get our starters, the choice of cold starters was very poor and instead of replenishing the food that was running low, the empty trays were just left sitting. we then had a seat to start our starters, then one of the employees who seemed to think he was a bit of a "comedian" started telling jokes about the birthday party going on at the table beside us, and someone obviously thought it was a good idea to let him loose with a microphone... we had a young baby with us and the racket this guy was making (shouting down the microphone) was ridiculous, not only did it frighten the baby and upset her, but it made it impossible to have a conversation with the person directly beside you. this happened twice throughout our visit.
We then headed up too get our main course... all I can say is that Service with a smile does not prevail in this establishment... the man who was carving the meat was not forthcoming or helpful whatsoever and it was obvious he did not want to be there. There seemed to be a lot of staff "hanging about" but very rarely did they come over to take away dirty crockery/cutlery between courses, and there was no drinks waiting service which was a pity hence the volume of staff.
Dessert was disappointing too with the same story as was with the starter. the food overall was ok, very salty but it done the job. just disappointed with the whole experience.
I will not be back anyway. I hope that the clarion takes some of this constructive criticism on board.

Went for a family carvery. Booked over the phone and was told the price was £13.95 each. Got to the door of the carvery and was told we needed to prepay at reception so off we trotted to do this. We had taken the lift as we had a pram with us so never seen any sign regarding getting a ticket before going up the stairs. Lift was dingy and left us off beside the kitchen with gravy and butter wrappers etc on floor. The receptionist was very unhelpful. Told us that the price was only £13.95 if paid before the Saturday. We were not told this over the phone! Very quick to pass the buck to someone else as it wasn't her who took the call she said. Gave it to us for cheaper price anyway. Soup and main course was very good, although the server of the meat could crack a smile every now and again. Dessert was a big disappointment. They were so demolished looking that I didn't even know what some of it was. Very little choice as well. Just had ice cream. Also bought 3 Fanta oranges for the kids. I don't know what was in the bottles but it wasn't Fanta. Tasted like fizzy diluted orange juice. Over £2 a soft drink as well which was very expensive. A man was on the microphone a few times during the dinner as well and it was very loud causing our baby to scream each time for several minutes. Wouldn't travel to go back again as we drove 25 miles to it.

Stayed for two nights at the end of July'13,a good base to explore the Causeway Coastal region.Hotel good value, clean and comfortable, spacious room.Very good buffet breakfast.Very warm at night and as we were on the 4th floor, the windows only opened a little, could have done with air-conditioning.Also there was free WiFi but quite complicated to login, had to give a lot of information to BitBuzz.Staff very friendly and helpful and only a short stroll from hotel into Carrickfergus town with castle, promenade, cinema, nice restaurants.

Room Tip: Our 4th floor room very warm, needs air-conditioning.

nice hotel, good reception area , lift to reception area seemed to be for catering ,was very dingy and could have done with a lick of paint (we had a disabled adult with us) reception room was beautiful but only because bride paid someone to dress the room god only knows what lay beneath. the ladies toilets ajoining the reception area smelled like a sewer ,the toilet bowls were clean but that was about the only thing in them that was the mirrors were dirty the ceiling was filthy and had rolled up balls of toilet roll stuck all over it, the toilet cubicle walls were looked like they hadnt been cleaned for a long time and had all sorts smeared over them yuk . we used the toilets downstairs in the bar/entrance area after the first visit to the upstair ones as these were cleaner. the meal was fine warm and plentiful starter and main very nice but the strawberry desert (not sure if it was cheesecake or blamange) was tasteless aside from that the service was good staff friendly enough we had a great day but really they need to do a serious cleaning job in the ladies toilets and then keep it up by cleaning it properly every day. i only gave this a three because ive seen cleaner public toilets on the high streets and the drinks especially soft drinks were overly expensive.

Stayed for 2 nights over the July holidays and once again had a good time. Only a short stroll to Carrickfergus and a good base to explore the County Antrim coast line by car.
Rooms are a good size and have a super king size bed and are kept clean and tidy.
There are also some good offers on meal deals. Will use again.

We booked hotel over the internet, having only read the reviews. On arrival we were greeted by a smiling receptionist who apologised for keeping us waiting. Our room was warm when we first entered but after having the double windows open for only a few minutes it had cooled down, one piece of advice is, make sure the curtains are closed if you are dressing in the room not the bathroom, as some rooms open up onto the main car park beneath the window. The room was virtually spotless save for a few scuff marks on the wall, the bathroom sparkled(it was great to have a glass each for rinsing mouthwash!) We asked for ice and also extra sheets to use in place of the cosy duvet(would be ideal in winter but not this hot weather!) to which room service provided promptly. Breakfast was good with a help yourself buffet and a waitress who provided us with our morning tea&coffee.
Pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Make sure that you get a room with French windows helps to cool room down.

Have stayed in the Clarion in the past and was impressed, however this time I feel that it has gone a little downhill. They have closed up the railings at the front of the hotel so when walking have to go all the way around the back and then to the front on the road - not ideal for those arriving on foot! They charge £10 per day for wi-fi - every other organisation provides it free - rip off! Went to bar at 10.30 for drink to take upstairs and it was closed - no-one on reception. For the price would have expected some fresh fruit for breakfast - not just tinned mandarin oranges and grapefruit segments. Room was clean and spacious.

Room Tip: on the front you get sea views but it is a very busy road and can be noisy if window open. Back loo...
