“It is Not The Building's Fault that it is So Old But...”

Hard bed.
Outdated bathroom with the worst shower controls on the island.
Cooks taking smoking breaks below our the second story window.
Hard bed.
Worst breakfast we had---instant coffee.

And I have nothing else to add but Trip Advisor sez my reviews must be at least 200 characters so I am just biding my time until I reach that number. This is not an easy thing to do nd I have to add that after a three week trip to beautiful Ireland I have a lot of reviews to publish so forgive me for this short cut.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. As a listed building there is very little we can do with regards to the water pressure. Some rooms the pressure is perfect and depending on the occupancy levels some are slow. You can however a perfectly good shower with hot water but it maybe a little slow. With relation to the bed, all beds have recently been replaced and this is the first time we have had negative feedback. We do serve filter coffee at breakfast time and this is standard for most hotels.

Kind regards

Maureen Fallis

First time in Ireland! Dobbins Inn was recommended by a friend and how right she was!

From check in to departure I had a great experience.

All staff very friendly and were happy. Locals in the bar offered a "great crack"

The place was clean tidy and organised. Bed very comfortable (room 8), had 3 nights of good sleep. Maybe the Guinness helped a little. Ha Ha.

Beer lines very clean - all pints from various fonts very tasty.

Food absolutely fantastic from breakfast to dinner (Dear management, keep your chef)

If I get over to Ireland again will have no hesitation to stay at Dobbins Inn.

We had a great time at Dobbins Inn! What they lack in amenities, they more than made up for in character. Downside - the rooms and bathrooms were a bit cramped and it takes a little know how to get the shower at the right temperature. There are no face cloths (we just went around the corner and bought a roll of paper towels to use) and paper bath mats were not too handy either. Upside - the beds were extremely comfortable, the TV was a nice size with a nice variety of channels, and the food was great and plenty of it and free wi-fi. This hotel was started in the 13th century and the building oozes character. There are lots of steps and long hallways and big fireplaces, big oak beams and stonework as one would expect from such an old building. It even supposedly has a ghost. And it looks out right at Carrickfergus castle and the harbor (if you have a room at the front). Many small shops right at your front door and within easy walking distance. The biggest character of all though was Edith. She was housekeeper, waitress and general entertainment. Nothing was too much trouble for her to make our stay comfortable. Hubby liked to take a walk along the shorefront in the mornings and she would have a cup of coffee waiting for him when he got back (and get him an umbrella when needed). Edith made sure our complimentary morning breakfast of a full Ulster fry was really full - extra sausages and bacon and whatever else we wanted. The rest of the staff was really friendly and helpful, but Edith was the one that made us feel like we were staying with Mum.

Room Tip: We were told the ghost of Lizzy Dobbin is supposed to be in room 21

My husband and I wanted to stay in a spooky hotel for our wedding anniversary and we got spooky alright, we went up on a Friday night and we loved it, the staff were brilliant the rooms were great the beds were comfortable and the morning breakfast was very much to our taste. There is a lovely atmosphere within the hotel and we were made to feel very welcome. We took pictures which to our astonishment showed interesting things very good stay thanks to the staff at Dobbins inn.

I can only give a review for the restaurant. Lacking a bit on atmosphere, seats not the most easy to sit on....food, starter and main meal no problem. While I was there last Saturday evening only three tables in use. Value for money not to bad.
