We dined as a family group last Sunday at the Kitchen, and enjoyed a very pleasant meal. Staff we're very friendly. Only downside were the desserts - felt a bit mass produced, and not in keeping with the excellent starters and main courses.

Stopped for a bit of a celebratory lunch on a Saturday afternoon and have to say this was one of the most disappointing experiences I have ever heard. Arrived at 1pm and were seated in the reception area with menus. We were the only people in the place! Which made the atmosphere feel very awkward we felt we had to whisper to one another as it was so quiet.

We were then seated in the restaurant in which we were the only people at 1pm on a Saturday afternoon?!?! Again it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop which made us feel quite uncomfortable. I ordered the BLT and my partner ordered the burger both of which came with triple cooked chips. The BLT was a triple decker on brown bread - each slice of bread had been toasted to oblivion you could not touch this sandwich without it crumbling. I basically had some bacon with breadcrumbs. It was tasteless. As for the triple cooked chips well that would be a miracle as most of them were still frozen/raw in the middle. Think I found about 3 chips that actually had been cooked my partner's chips were the same. My partner's burger definitely was better and much more tasty.

The portions were small and the food really just was not up to an acceptable standard. By the end of the meal we were both still hungry. Didn't raise any of ou issues with staff as by that point we just wanted out of there where we proceeded to go to a coffee shop in town and get a decent feed.

Maybe this was just an off day - the lack of customers and atmosphere and the poor qaulity of the food but it has definitely put me off. I won't be back for food anyway.

We were very impressed with our Sunday lunch, it was beautifully presented and very tasty. It was so nice to have waiter service and not a carvery which so many local places seem to serve on a Sunday. We had all three courses and coffee afterwards and it was reasonably priced. We will definitely go back.

Have eaten a few times in the Kitchen during October while in Cookstown on business. Have not been disappointed by any of the meals. The house beer battered cod was excellent with light crispy batter, chunky chips and home made tartare sauce and mushy peas. Likewise the house burger with bacon and chedder. A good chunky home made burger with nothing but beef and onion with seasoning. Good relish served in a little preserve jar too. Very nice rib eye steak too, cooked to perfection and very tasty. Very satisfying.
