“gone down hill”
Reviewed July 5, 2012

This was really nice at the start but has gone down hill. They have let quality & standards go. Shame...

“Fantastic food! Great value!”
Reviewed May 13, 2012 via mobile

We just love Bengal Spice - the restaurant's decor is far from amazing but this is far outweighed by the excellent food served. At the end of the day / the food is the most important thing! Very family friendly and with no corkage it works out to be extremely reasonable! Yummy!!

“Good Food, Weird Atmosphere, Overpriced Menu - eat out instead!”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

The visit was made on a weekend evening, pretty quiet on entering the restaurant. It was dimly lit and no real atmosphere. The staff were standing around looking miserable and showed us to our table with no chit chat or welcome. On sitting down they did not offer us a menu or drinks which was a bit weird. The staff then disappeard into the kitchen, eventually one of them returned and asked us did we want a drink. Still no sign of a menu which we had to then ask for rather than be provided with one! The older man was grumpy on taking the order and was most unhelpful and almost quite rude when we asked for advice on anything. He sharply pointed out that no rice was provided with the dishes which is stupid considering if you eat out you get the side with the meal. The prices were quite high for the sit in menu but we didnt worry as we thought it would make up for it. On leaving the table he gathered up the menus with no thank you or any closing comment to us. A few minutes later a younger man came over and due to him being hard to understand asked us did we want "something" we then asked for our drinks but he reappeared with poppadoms followed about 5 minutes later by our drinks.

Food was brought out fairly slowly with take away clearly getting the priority here, as people were coming in and out for orders. I was quite dissapointed with the food, it was tasty but I had 6 small cubes of chicken in sauce, not even a full breast of chicken which was almost £9. We had rice and naan bread between us they were £2.50 per portion, portions are very small and I would not return to this restaurant unless it was for a take away.

Customer service was poor, there was no offers of anything during the meal and the staff had nothing to do so stood staring at us the whole time we where in there which is a bit off putting.

“Food good, terrible in every other way! Order take away instead!”
Reviewed March 16, 2012

We called here on a Fri eve. It was empty. We were seated an not offered any drinks. They came over shortly after and asked if any drinks without leaving menu. Pretty strange routine. Given a menu by a very unenthusiastic older man, and left to decide with no help offered in choosing. I Cant decide if he really hates his job or is just very unexcitable, monotone voice and no facial expressions!
The food arrived, very good but very small portions an a dish described as fairly hot was blow your head off material- it was jalifrezi, maybe got th ingredients wrong! Your paying 8quid for a small portion of chicken jalifrezi and your rice naan is extra 2.50 a pop. Total rip off. We were informed the rice is included in take away prices so why not with sit in!!? They didnt offer further drinks during meal even though a girl paced the floor back and forward the entire time we were there.

Overall thoughts - wont be back although would be good as take away, as food was nice and would be getting better value that way!
