We received a phone call from the hotel on the morning of our check-in just to forewarn us there was going to be a party in the hotel but it would finish at 12. We appreciated the warning, but didn’t change our plans. As we arrived into reception we could see it was set up for the 21st, and the staff had turned the facilities into a lovely venue. Although the music was loud when the fire escapes were opened there wasn’t any rowdy behaviour from the guests. Couldn’t help but notice the music was still playing until 12.45 and in the dead of night it seamed loud, even two floors up.

The price of alcohol in the bar was quite a bit more than other pubs/bars in Skipton. The majority of the staff were pleasant. We decided to dine in the restaurant on the Saturday night, and found we shared the relaxed setting with only one other couple. Despite the waiting staff being hardly run off their feet I thought the service was extremely slow and not very attentive. However the steaks we ordered were perfect and very enjoyable, well done chefs!! Desserts…well ice-cream…very small scoops and grossly inflated price, was nice but hardly bowled me over. We finished our night in the bar which had quite a good atmosphere, shame about the smelly drain wafting from somewhere.

The rooms are quite spacious, with a large bed and nice bathroom. We asked for a spa bath, but next time I’d give that a miss and ask for a shower. That’s our preference. The canal provided a fine view. It was very clean, not so shabby at all.

Skipton is a market town full of pubs and cafes which we appreciated over the rest of the weekend. I really enjoyed my brief visit and would come back again. Although I found it really weird both the supermarkets closed at 4pm on the Sunday and not 24 hours at all.

Room Tip: The canal view room had a spa bath, but no shower fixed to the wall. A bit of luxury for a weekend...

Nice hotel, we had a room on the second floor overlooking the canal, room was very nice, clean, plenty of extra bedding should you need it, tea and coffee making facilities and toiletries.Room also had french doors so you could look out at the view.Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We had Dinner on the first night which was included in the price and there were some lovely choices on the menu. Staff in the dining room were very pleasant and helpful. The location of the hotel is great, you can access the canal from the hotel and walk alongside it into the centre of Skipton, the train station is opposite the hotel, so really handy if you arrive by train or decide to travel into Leeds. The only negative point was that the Reception area and corridors downstairs were a little shabby and could do with refurbishing but all in all a very pleasant stay .

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the canal

Nice, clean and decent hotel. Best benefit is the location which is just opposite to railway station and key places. It offers nice breakfast options too (Although it would be best if some Asian veg options are available with some spice). Some rooms are small but overall nice staying experience.

Room Tip: Canalside rooms are very good

In the past month I have had my wedding and christening at herriots hotel. I will start with the wedding from start to finish the staff cannot do enough for you the planning from the meal to the speeches to the disco at night the hotel and its staff are there working with you and for you brilliant.
The christening well I could write the above all again but I will mention the food let's just say you will not be disappointed in what you have, the sit down meal for the wedding was excellent and the hot buffet for the christening was to die for.
Accommodation.
My parents don't live in Skipton but every time they come up they always stop at herriots and give it 5 stars everytime

We would like to say a big thank you to herriots and its staff for are two special days.

See you all soon thanks.

we stayed in the room overlooking the canal and for us it was perfect. a 2 night stay was made even better by, not only its location for canalside walks and the railway station only over the road, but very helpful and friendly staff. looking to return for a winter break in skipton.

Six weeks after staying in the hotel the manager told a receptionist to write to me, 'I think you may have taken our room key by mistake... If you fail to post back the key we can take payment from the card on booking the room with us. The charge will be £100 from next week!'

The manager who hid behind his junior is called David Oliver.

My bank tells me that Visa say that hotels cannot charge at all for lost keys and will not make payment.

But to take £100 from my card - that might well be theft.

After booking via late rooms and paying £79/Night we arrived at the hotel on bank hol mon just after lunch with the intention of visiting local market. We were told we could not go into the room until 3 pm even though the room was ready as this was hotel policy. On arriving back at 3pm the receptionist asked us to hang on as she was busy with paperwork but promptly carried on talking to her companion.
On going into the room which was in as annex it was spotless however extremely hot with only a window opening onto the outside bar area and a noisy post Fan for ventilation.
We arranged to dine in the restaurant for our evening meal where there were 2 other parties dining making the restaurant virtually empty. The restaurant and bar was service by 3 young bar staff of which 2 could not speak English properly and on inexperienced. On seating ordered a bottle of wine was promptly delivered and poured which then the waitress proceeded to tell us what was not available on the menu and the apologised saying she should have told us before the wine was ordered My wife ordered pork belly with bury black pudding and rosti which was literally half a slice of bacon with a piece of black pudding on top and rosti on top of that on trying the rosti this was inedible. We pointed this out to the waitress who said she would tell chef. My meal was acceptable (Steak and chips) One of the other couples sent her meal back twice and did not eat anything. After a brief visit to town we promptly cancelled breakfast and had an early night. This turned out to be uncomfortable due to the heat in the room and the noisy fan. After a good breakfast at morrisons opposite the hotel we visited leeds on the train which is also just opposite.
The second evening we visited the town centre 5 mins walk away and after a discussion with one of the locals we went to an unlicienced indian restaurant just off the centre ( just off Keighly road) which was excellent and would recommend (you can take your own drinks).
I cannot honestly recommend this hotel and found it vastly overpriced. However I would recommend a visit to Skipton.
