had a wedding here and planning it with herriots was a nightmare as noone knew what they were doing, no one wrote down what we wanted and noone updated anything on the system so communication between staff was very poor and the stress of planning a wedding and advertising as wedding planners is a laugh when noone is a professional wedding planner and you are passed a to b all the time.
on the day the table and chair covers were set up in plenty of time and very nicely although some chair covers had muck on them.
bride and bridesmaids stopped in the 4 poster room the night before where the shower was leaking and the manager tried to fix it with nothing but a plaster,
didnt get much sleep as the person above the room was walking about all night and you can hear it very loudly.
the towel rail fell off when one bridesmaid grabbed a towel, there was a spider and a wasp in the room when we arrived.and dust all over the curtains and the bridal 'getting ready room' which is very dull and no light at the dressing table unless move curtains up as no curtain hooks but full of dust so we then put out of the window to get rid of some dust and get some light in but we got told off and a member of staff which she barged in the room to re arrange the curtains when we were trying to get ready for church!
we were aloud until 4pm but got told at 2pm we had to leave which caused stress to then be told actually yes we were right and could stay until 4 (again no communication between staff)
the bride and bridesmaids got up for breakfast in the morning (3 of us) and one person was sat hogging a four seater when every other table and chair were 2 seaters and all free we were told we would have to wait or squeeze on a 2seater table, we did and the staff could see we were struggling as wasnt even room for a cup of tea on there let alone juice and breakfast but when a four seater became available WE had to ask to be moved they did not offer. when we ordered and got our breakfast it arrived with the sausages raw as they were pink! and the eggs still had goo in which meant they were not cooked properly too which meant the bride on her wedding day had beans and a potato for her breakfast. had the bride and bridesmaid eaten this they would have been sick at the wedding.
we were rushed out of the room by herriots wanting to get it cleaned for the next couple (which i can understand a business point of view but something as big as a wedding things are everywhere and alot of things got lost and left behind from being rushed out of the room)

The night of the wedding their was a giant moth in the Jacuzzi room and coming in the room pitch black you have to insert an electric key but cannot lock the door without the key which meant you had to stand in pitch black to lock the door the then put the electric key back in which i will never understand
the room was roasting and no air con/ fan available?
luckily the bridal Jacuzzi room was alot cleaner than the four poster but never had chance to go in the Jacuzzi because rushed out in the morning again .

i think i can say its okay if just a place to rest your head or a quick conference as the venue is very lovely and some nice food for the buffet but unfortunately the staff do not know which way is left.
dont stress your self with a wedding here, it is not worth it, we only got our wedding here because we needed to be here so the grooms colleges could join us but dont waste your time as they dont make it your 'perfect day' or let you 'leave it with them' as the advertise..

Room Tip: jacuzzi room (canal side) is alot better and quieter than the road side .

We are both upset and surprised to hear about the points you have raised, especially as many close family members and guests made a point of speaking to the management team, thanking the team, commenting on what a "fantastic time" they had and how much "they appreciated how hard our staff had worked" to make the day special.
Feedback is very important to us and you can be assured that your details have been noted and any valid points, within our control, actioned. We are sorry that you felt this way and at no time raised any of these points, thus giving us the opportunity to address them at the time.
We build a close relationship with our Wedding couples with many returning back to us to celebrate anniversaries, celebrations and christenings.

My girlfriend and I visited Herriots on a last minute decision for a Friday night. I called the hotel and spoke to Janice on reception who was so helpful in getting me a great deal - and she did! One night evening meal, bed and breakfast which also included a bottle of Prosecco waiting in our room and a box of chocolates... not cheap ones either. Our evening meal was only a two-course meal in the deal that we got, but there is no way that we could have eaten another! The food was little short of amazing to be honest. We had fillet of beef starter which was very well presented, beautifully cooked and tasted lovely. For main course I had the largest mixed grill I have ever eaten and my partner had sirloin steak. Cooked to perfection! I was a little embarrassed that I had to send some back, only because I could not eat another morcel. Room was beautiful as always. Must say a special mention to Janice on reception for being so friendly and welcoming, also Sarah in the restaurant who was brilliant at her job. Very professional, very well mannered at all times and we overheard her speaking so respectfully to an elderly gentleman on the table across from us. She's a credit to the hotel. Our third stay there, and we will be returning very soon. FANTASTIC!!

Room Tip: Some rooms have a balcony overlooking canal which are lovely.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review and share your experience with others. We are so pleased that you had a great time with us. Our staff work really hard to look after our guests from the minute they arrive to the minute they leave and nothing motivates them more than knowing they have achieved this. We hope to welcome you back soon.

Not actually stayed at Herriotts but had to write a review, I was looking for somewhere for myself and wedding party to stay next year as I am getting married in Skipton. After requesting a brochure and availability details twice online and being ignored I popped into the hotel whilst visiting the area. Was met with rudeness on reception informing me they didn't let out rooms to people when they are having a wedding if the wedding is not with them. Not really sure why a hotel doesn't want to take bookings for their rooms. They said they have to keep a minimum of 10 /20 of their rooms free in case they have a wedding booking (which they didnt actually have). I said I only wanted 3, then was informed it's a 2 night minimum and I told her I did want 2 nights. Then a sigh and finally asked me which rooms I wanted. I noticed logging into trip advisor I am not the first person to have experienced this problem and would suggest to Herriotts if they want to continue to advertise themselves as a hotel and not exclusively a wedding venue that they have a slightly more welcoming attitude to people who want there wedding elsewhere and simply need rooms for the night. Oh and by the way a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush!!! Needless to say I will be booking elsewhere.

We are sorry if there has been any confusion in your interpretation of our policy on Saturday night stays. Skipton is a very busy tourist town and therefore very busy at weekends. As we only have 23 bedrooms, these fill very quickly. As with most establishments in the area we have a minimum 2 night stay policy at the weekends. If we have a wedding in the hotel we do allow a small group of rooms for Wedding guests to stay on a 1 night basis. We are sorry if this was not explained clearly and this will be addressed in our regular training meetings.
We are one of the only hotels in the area who has actually teamed up with local attractions to offer special tourist packages inclusive of ticket entry, so that guests make the most of what Skipton and the surrounding area has to offer. We have many lovely guests who visit us time and time again for short breaks and our great package offers.

We decided to book this after considering the usual budget chains (Travelodges etc)
We werent disappointed. The hotel was packed with character and charm, and had a real quirkiness about it. The welcome we received was delightful!
We found our room on the top floor, but beware, there is no lift in the older part of the building and the steps were steep.
After puffing and panting our way up, our room was lovely, spotless and charming.
The real highlight of this hotel is the food. We were offered a deal, £99 for bed, breakfast and evening meal, with a bottle of wine thrown in! The food was delicious.
This was a real treat of a break and we will definitely be back :)

Room Tip: If your knees are as bad as ours, ask for a room in the newer part of the hotel. We stayed facing...

We booked this hotel online via booking.com. On the booking form it made out it was B and B, We booked 2 nights @ £180!! and when we got there it was Bed only and NO breakfast but we could have breakfast for £8.50 each (Therefore Breakfast over the road at Morrisons for £7 for the both of us).
Also on line we stated that a BATH was a MUST. Guess what, a room without a bath. After complaining we were given 2 further rooms apart from the receptionist could not find any room keys for them, we eventually ended up on second floor after climbing up the steepest hotel steps in the UK and the room was marvelous, the bed superb, the views of the Canal marvelous.
What about the bath I hear you ask. Well the bathroom was the size of our living room so we were initially impressed until my wife went to actually get in the bath and not even she could lie down comfortably in it it was so short (no, there are no photo's of her in the bath!! Well there are but they are mine, all mine) So obviously for those who know me, I certainly did not enjoy the bathing experience. It's not like there was no room for a longer bath, there was, they just had not considered it. Apart from that the bathroom was FIRST CLASS.
The Hotel itself and the Staff were brilliant and would probably stay there again, assuming they will have us after this review!

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard room as the road at the front is very very noisy with only a view of the Station...

We stayed at Herriots in July. We have been before and as ever we were greeted very warmly with the chef's home made shortbread as a little treat! The hotel is located on a main road leading out of Skipton opposite the railway station. Our room was in the original old wing backing onto a lovely courtyard. The new wing is connected by a light and airy conservatory and it backs onto the canal. We have also stayed in the new wing. Our room was large and very tastefully furnished in a contemporary style. Breakfast was excellent and service was very good. We dined twice in the evening. The food was very good and beautifully presented. The hotel is an excellent location for the Yorkshire Dales and for train enthusiasts like us - cross the road and you can get trains to Leeds, York, Scarborough etc and of course the Settle-Carlisle Line. It is a pleasant 5 min walk along the canal to the town centre - do visit as the market is great and there are lots of interesting pubs, shops and a castle!

Room Tip: At weekends they often have weddings and it can be noisy overlooking courtyard so ask for room overl...
