Owner description: Pennine Cruisers, a family run company consisting of Ian Clarke, wife Pamela and daughter Zoe and is based in Skipton, North Yorkshire; "Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales," and situated on the beautiful Leeds and Liverpool canal. Pennine Cruisers provides everything that is needed and whether you are an absolute beginner or an experienced boater you will find it at Pennine Cruisers. Starting with their 30 minute accompanied canal trips (on either leo or Sam) up the historic Springs Branch to see Skipton Castle from a different angle. Pennine Cruisers also have six Day Boats (Rosie, Jim, Jack, Jill, Bill & Ben) for which no previous experience is required, as following your boat handling instruction, you will be able to head off on your day out with total confidence. Canal life is addictive and so the next step is a short break, holiday or extended holiday on board a narrow boat (Leyburn, Cray, Airton, Eshton & Burnsall). Once again no previous experience is required as the full boat handling instruction and lock instruction is provided by Pennine Cruisers. Full lockside instruction is given to all our holiday boaters to ensure that hirers are confident in the operation of locks and know how to operate them safely so they can enjoy all aspects of their holiday. What could be better than sailing slowly along this picturesque waterway, stopping off at one of the many waterside inns, but knowing that you are never more than a few yards from dry land! So contact Pennine Cruisers for a range of hire options for boating holidays..... just perfect!

“Great day out”
Reviewed August 11, 2014

We recently hired Rosie a 4 berth day boat with Pennine Cruisers. We turned up early as they were still getting the boats ready so had a short walk around Skipton. When we got back at 9am we were signed in then shown to our boat where we were given a short basic instruction of how to control the boat. It was pretty much on / off, forward/ reverse and how to open the bridges (there are no locks involved). We then set off down the 12 mile section of canal at a leisurely 4mph. The first 10 minutes getting used to it were daunting but we soon got the hang of it and had a brilliant day. The bridges are fairly straight forward to operate, the hardest thing is stopping at the side to allow someone to get off to open them. We stopped for lunch at the white Lion pub then carried on our journey further down the canal then set off back about 2pm this gave us plenty of time to get back to the berth in Skipton. Overall we had a great time and would definitely do it again. The boats are equipped with cooker, kettle, pots, pans, cutlery and a WC. All you need is food / drinks for a great day out.

“Great Canal Trip”
Reviewed July 27, 2014

Hired a canal barge from 9 am until 4.30 pm, and sailed at a leisurely pace along the Leeds Liverpool canal. You sailed the barge yourself after some instructions from the staff, and what a fantastic experience. No locks to encounter, only a few bridges that you had to open yourselves but very easy to do so. Take you own picnic and sail at about walking pace. Very relaxing. There is a cooker on board, and brewing facilities. There were seven of us and our dog. All thoroughly enjoyed the day. Would recommend to anyone.

“Boat trip of a life time”
Reviewed July 14, 2014 via mobile

What can I say other than "great boating fun" we went the Gargrave way and were treated to magnificent green fields and towering trees with a mixture of wildlife to top off the site cake. Steering the boat was straight forward, point the stick where you do not want to go, that's about it really. Now, the boat..it was nice and spacious and 11 people didn't get in the way of each other especially when the more adventurous folk explored the side of the barge and braved the thin walk ways back to front and visa versa. In a nutshell, or should I say "sea shell" good trip.

“little trip on the small half hour boat”
Reviewed July 13, 2014

It was a lovely sunny day and we had gone down to the canal to have a word with the boat people because we are going on one of the barges for a week . We had lunch in the lovely little open air cafe next to the boat shop and watching the day go by decided to go on the little boat trip . Our grandson was a little dubious about going on the barge for his week holiday so we thought we would take him to see how he liked it . We were really glad we did cos he and his sister loved it . It was a lovely chilling ride and much better than walking round the town cos it was packed . So looking forward to our weeks holiday on the real thing now yay can't wait .
