Description: Idling on the banks of the Leeds-Liverpool canal, where the red rose meets the white rose you'll discover the Cross Keys Inn. Built in the seventeenth century, the Cross Keys has been brought back to life and is returning to it's roots where weary travellers, walkers, foodies and real ale lovers can meet and enjoy home-cooked food, real log fires, English craft beers, lagers and ciders. Whether you're stopping to take the weight off your feet and have a coffee or looking for a hearty meal, a warm welcome awaits you all. Muddy boots, a well behaved dog and a smiley face are always welcome.

We moored our narrow boat down from the Cross Keys for a very welcome break. Even though we were windswept and dressed in casual clothes we were made to feel so welcome. The staff were very busy serving both large and small parties of diners yet did so efficiently and always with a smile. The pudding was one we will remember forever, it was scrumptious. My husband was a little disappointed with his 'burger', he felt it could have been less pricey. I on the other hand had a special, 'no-name chicken breast' I can't remember the rest of the name unfortunately. I would advise any canal users to use the path across the bridge near the livery stables. The other bridge path takes you along a very fast and busy and there is no roadside path.

Glad that you enjoyed your visit to the Cross Keys. Sorry that you felt that the burger was pricey, these are all home-made from the best quality beef hence the price tag. "No-name Chicken" is a customers' favourite and as you suggest, canal users are better using the path near the livery stables as easier access. Come and see us again soon.

We stayed in this area for 5 days and this was the best place we had dinner that week. It really was great food, the place was clean and staff were attentive but not overly keen.

See pictures i have added of the food and the superb pint of Lager. The food was home made with fantastic flavours. I went for the Steak and Ale pie which was a delight

We also had a window view of bunny rabbits running in the fields and horses much to the delight of my two daughters

I would return here when next in the area

Food was ok portions were on the small side and bill was on the large side.
For pub food it felt expensive. I had the salmon fish cakes which were thin and small, husband had the cheese pie, again small portion.

Sorry to hear that you weren't happy with the portion size of the food, did you get the chance to raise this with the staff? Hope that you decide to give us a second chance and come again soon.

This is a delightful pub, the location is perfect and the food exceptional - pub grub at its very best. There are changes going on, but did not detract from the lovely atmosphere and we will definitely return. We have been to the Cross Keys before, so it was lovely to see that it was visually getting better. Well done Cross Keys we certainly do love you.

We turned up without a reservation, rather late for lunch, but found a warm welcome and excellent, swift service. We had two courses, which arrived very quickly and were delicious. Good beer as well, so we had to go for a walk to reduce the calories. We will come back.
