Description: The Craven Heifer pub, a familiar sight in its elevated position at the top of Tarn Moor, is a popular stopping-off place, not only for walkers and cyclists visiting the Dales, but perhaps especially for Skipton locals, who come up for the famous Sunday Lunch. The pub used to be a farmhouse and associated complex, and still retains many of the original character and features, like the “barn door” entrance. Serving some of the best food in the Dales The Craven Heifer has a fantastic reputation locally. Boasting some of the finest Local Ales and Homemade Pork Pies its the ideal place to stop off after a walk in the beautiful countryside.

Passed this pub hundreds of times as I drive between Manchester and North Yorkshire decided to drop in on Sunday with mum and brother. What a treat. We all went for the carvery; the meat was great, crackling amazing and the veg cooked spot on. I'm veggie and the kitchen were very accommodating and did me a jug of veggie gravey, there was also a vegetarian menu but the carvery looked so good I went for that. Really impressed and our waiter, Tom made sure we had everything we needed.

We recently had lunch at the Craven Heifer. They had the time of our booking wrong by 2 hours, which wasn't a good start. 20 minutes after placing our order (sandwiches and chips), they came to say they had no tuna, so 2 of our party had to choose something else. 30 minutes later the food finally arrived, and it was ok. The staff were off hand throughout - for example, we were only taken through to our table as the food was being brought out. Because we didn't sit down immediately, the waitress said she'd just plonk the food down anywhere, rather than asking who was having what. The food was ok, but the service was very poor.

This review is most unfair. The customers insisted on standing at the bar drinking whilst the food wes being cooked. They didn't choose a table so the waitress had no alternative other than to choose a table and put the food down. The situation wasn't helped by the fact the group had all forgotten what they had ordered! Staff were in no way ofhand but the customers ignored us everytime we told them the food was on its way.

We will hold our hands up and confirm we did run out of Tuna, it was an extremely busy period for us and being Christmas Eve we didn't obtain a delivery.

Our food is anything but basic! Just read the other reviews!

This is one of our regular watering holes and you are always sure of a warm welcome. In winter there is always a huge fire and the regulars are a great crowd. The food can't be faulted, try the fish pie,it's great!! or a steak, they are always spot on.Angela and here staff are very hard working, doing all the jobs from receptionist to waitress to bar person and in busy times you have to be prepared to wait for a refill!
Check out the specials board, there is always something different on it. Although we have never stayed at "The Heifer" we often talk to guests and they are always very happy with the rooms with regular long stayers from as far as the welsh valleys.

Visited Friday to meet up with friends who were staying there. We were greeted upon arrival and shown to a previously reserved table and given menus. There was an excellent choice of starters, main courses and there was also a specials menu on the blackboard in the bar area.
They also have a wonderful array of Ales from local breweries to choose from.
We enjoyed some excellent food which we thought was reasonably priced and cooked to perfection. Yes their was an additional cost for a side order of vegetables if you wanted them but the dishes we ordered did not need them.
The service was first class and we will definitely return.

First meal at the Craven Heifer tonight and it certainly will not be the last. Food excellen. Service good. Only downside was that the staff kept going through a door near our table and leaving it open. It was rather draughty on a cold night. Lovely log fire though.
