“Absolutely underwhelmed”
Reviewed February 22, 2014 via mobile

My partner booked me a surprise Valentine night away at the adjoining hotel. He was contacted the week before to ask if he would like to book a table to avoid disappointment on the night. He was told about the special valentine menu, but that it was optional as we could still order off the a la carte menu if we would prefer. Our table was booked for 8.30, but when we enquiried, it turned out to be 9.00. Although we wouldn't normally eat so late, the atmosphere of the restaurant looked appealing and we had a chance to look at the special menu which looked delicious!
We were shown to a lovely romantic table full of valentine confetti and given our menus. We said that we would like to order the special set menu, to be told that this should have been booked in advance and that there wasn't enough food left!! What?? I wish we had left at that point, the waitresses complete lack of sincerity should have rung alarm bells. The meals that we did then order were nothing more than average, you could have soled shoes with my gammon, and a large chunk of my partners pork went in a napkin for our dog! Don't get me started about nearly £3 for seasonal vegetables aka green beans! We left without bothering with a dessert, and unfortunately for us they billed us through the hotel. Massive disappointment, all fur coat and no knickers. First and last visit!

“Was good, lovely jam n scones”
Reviewed January 5, 2014 via mobile

We was bought a groupon voucher for afternoon tea as a present. We booked for a Saturday afternoon for 12.30. Sat nav took us to slightly the wrong place, but it wasn't too hard to find the location on the main road. There was plenty parking. we had to wait for reception to show up to start with, then shown through to our waitress, apparently we weren't booked in with the restaurant but not a major fuss was made. Decor seemed really nice to us. We got mulled wine and hot Pimms to start with (Pimms was lovely!). Then we had a nice big pot of tea with sandwiches (we got egg, salmon, cheese, ham n beef - beef was a bit tough, but I'm not a major fan anyway), bread wasn't as doughy as I'd like, but I can be fussy.
Scones, jam and cream for afters, very tasty!.

I'm torn between average and very good. I've gone with average as I felt service could have come with a bit more of a smile and the meat being a bit tough.

Thank James G

“A most pleasant dining experience”
Reviewed November 30, 2013

Every time we stay in Skipton, we dine at the Rhubarb Bar and Brasserie. The atmosphere is always welcoming and friendly. The food is always excellent although we rarely make it to the end of our puddings as the portion sizes are excellent!

A tremendous place to eat with a wonderfully intimate atmosphere.
