Having stayed here on many trips to the Uk while visiting family we cannot praise the hospitality and fabulous tailormade breakfasts enough !
We always get allocated a lovely comfortable ensuite room.
The room has matching bed linen and drapes with matching armchairs.
The dining room with linen tablecloths and napkins is delightlfully decorated and ambient.
We would highly recommend Carlton House as a family friendly B`n`B.

we have just come back from a 4 night stay at the Carlton guest house skipton and decided to read the reviews and think we must have drawn the short straw with our room. we requested a twin room and believe we had a single room with twin beds. we were in a dorma bedroom at the front of the house, with a window that was locked so that we could not open it. we needed the fan on all the time because the room was so hot and stuffy. the furniture was not matched and the room was so small and cramped that even opening the wardrobe was difficult. the beds were hard and creaked noisily when ever we turned over. there was no room for a chair so all we could do was sit or lie on the bed. we did have ensuite but the shower was inferior and would fluctuate from hot or freezing cold. the dining room was lovely and the breakfasts good and the owners very pleasant but i feel we did not experience what the other guests had as regards rooms and were not comfortable during our stay so my advice would be dont ask for a twin room.

Ann H, Owner at Carlton House, responded to this reviewResponded August 14, 2011

We were mortified to read the review "we won't be back" dated 17 July 2011 and feel we have to make a response. We didn't know that anyone was unhappy with their room or that any guest had problems with their accommodation until we read this review. Whilst the twin room is not the largest in the house, which is a Victorian Town House, and therefore not built specifically for guest accommodation, we are inspected yearly by an Assessor from Visit Britain who has never recommended that this room should be solely for single occupancy.
The first point made about the windows being locked is untrue. The windows in the bedrooms are never locked and if this couple had said they had a problem opening theirs, we would have willingly gone up to show them how it opened.
The beds in the twin room are beautiful antiques with good quality pocket sprung mattresses so we were surprised to read that they were found to be hard.
We were sorry to read that there was a problem with the shower fluctuating between hot and cold and would have dealth with it had we known. This problem was in fact reported to us shortly afterwards and we immediately contacted our heating engineers who fixed the system the same day.
We try to give everyone who stays with us a happy, welcoming and comfortable experience. On arrival we ask our guests to let us know if there is anything they need and hope that if anyone has a problem they will give us the opportunity to sort it out. Again on departure we ask if they have enjoyed their stay with us. We were not given any indication there was anything amiss until we read this review.

I stayed early July whilst visiting family and received a very warm welcome, a very comfortable bed and the best full english breakfast ever. Didn,t want to eat for the rest of he day.

An ideal location for visiting this lovely old town with its magnificent castle as well as the Dales.

Room Tip: Exceptionally comfortable

We have just returned from two nights at Carlton House, we stayed in a double en suite which was a lovely big room with everything we could need. The en suite is small but spotlessly clean, even providing shower cap and soap etc. Although there is no parking we parked right outside the door everytime, and as it's within walking distance of the town with shops and a huge choice of restaurants you don't need to move the car much! The breakfasts are superb, and enormous, plenty of choice. The website photos are quite accurate although they don't really do the place justice, all in all a really good experience.

We have just come back from a 4 night stay at the Carlton, and we found it lovely with elegant touches. The room was very comfortble and clean, and the breakfasts were delicious and more than set you up for the day. The hosts were very helpful and made us feel very at home.
