My wife and I have just returned from a nights stay at Boutique 25 in Skipton. First impressions were really positive, chck in wasn't until 3pm but we arrived early (midday) so as to spend some time in town. The staff we met were friendly and we were able to leave our case with them until we returned later on to check in, the case was also delivered to our room when we got back from an afternoon in Skipton.
The room, number 3 was a good size with large roll top bath in the corner perfect for relaxing with a drink together with your other half, large clean towels available there was also a modern bathroom with rainfall shower ensuite. The room aslo had a large flat screen tv, stereo system tea coffee making facilities. The room appeared clean however we did find an opened bottle of beer behind the bath which hadn't been moved so it makes you wonder how we it has cleaned before you arrive. In areas a bit of touching up of paintwork wouldn't go a miss.
All was well until later on in teh evening we returned form having been out for a drink at around 9pm to realise the the cellar bar beneath the hotel was going to be an issue. The bar stays open till i think it was around 1.30 am well this was when the music finally stopped and the noise of customers disapeared. The room was two floors above the smoking area so all evening/ night we could hear shouting and talking in the street as well as music form the bar also if the ndow was open the smell of cigarette smoke came wafting in, not what you want at all in a boutique or any hotel for that matter. This bar is also owned by the hotel however i believ they need to realise that one combats the other interest which could spell the end for the hotel as if you can't get a decent nights sleep people will not stay here as this is the main point of a hotel.
When we came to check out after about 5 hours sleep the next problem arose, no one about. I did find the chef who then was unable to locate a reciept of our payment, we had paid when we checked in. Thsi was resolved witha call to the owner who confirmed payment but this did delay our departure.
I was disapointed with the experience in terms of lack of sleep also thebed wasn't overly comfortable. It's a real shame as this hotel could be great but i have had to mark it as poor based on the issues with sleep quality - The owners will have to make a decision what they want to be either a boutique hotel or a bar as currently they do not work alongside each other.
Due to these issues i would not go back to Boutique 25.

Room Tip: If staying here see if you can get a room at the back of the hotel to avoid thenoise from the bar below

Stayed in the top floor three bedroomed suite. One central bathroom with walk in rainfall shower. Deep soak bath in main bedroom. Good and clean . The carpets are tired, so are the towels. This was in its day a 'boutique' room: maybe OK in its day , but past its sell by date now. Breakfast was barely average, poor coffee, white bread only, insufficiently clean surroundings. . I would not ever pay their exorbitant advertised rates, instead phoned them and secured the price over the phone. The place is OK for a night, friendly staff and a very central location for the town.

Room Tip: call the hotel directly if you chose to stay here

I so wanted to like this hotel, but in the end I couldn't bring myself to do so.

Its probably the overblown descriptions and unaccountably high price that really did it. I've stayed in hotels from 5 star to no star and the majority are pretty upfront in terms of price and performance. I don't get my hopes up when I stay at a Travel lodge and therefore i'm never disappointed and often moderately happy.

The hotel clearly suffers from being all things to all people and in its small footprint attempts to squeeze in;

1, a hotel
2. a curry house
3 an a' la carte restaurant
4 a champagne and cocktail bar

Despite a reasonable number of guests the place is spookily quiet and the staff nice, but often absent altogether, seem to try their best. The boss is full of bonhomie but others seem to have suffered a personalty transplant and clearly front of house is not their frst love.

The rooms were probably ok once upon a time but our wonkily assembled and badly chipped wardrobe leaning at an eccentric angle from the wall together with a strange futon like shin-splitting bed frame gave the room the look of a student bedsit. The condition of the plaster work and paint work in the room and communal areas was particularly poor unless Glasgow tenement chic is on trend this week.

Breakfast was a quiet affair, for some reason there was a deathly hush in the building. Muted conversation and a general air of discontent pervaded. A modest, but adequate cereal selection was available. Coffee was coaxed eventually and tea arrived promptly.
Sausages were too undercooked to be safe to eat, near raw in the centre, despite them being sent back and neither butter nor condiments were available other than by special request.

The member of staff was either so attentive as to be in your face every moment or had disapeared entirley for a fag in the beer garden (outdoor cocktail lounge?)

The place is tired and borderline shabby, the plumbing erratic, the rooms badly in need of redecoration, staff ok but untrained and as my headline suggests the air of 'bedsitville' is hard to shake. Its a shame as Skipton really does need and warrent a boutique hotel. Sadly this isnt one or in the words of the gent behnd me at breakfast "boutique my ar*e"

Arrived to stay here with friends. We were given Room 5 - told bathroom seat had been broken the night before- offered another room which wasn't made up or a discount on our room. We accepted the 10% discount. Room was pleasant but very tired. Photos on the webiste looked amazing, rooms similar but very worn now....curtains no longer touch the floor-not sure how they once did ( on the photos on the website). Wire and extension leads used alot in the room and leads are exposed around the rooms.

Informed staff on arrival that we required breakfast as earlyas possible the next day. Stated they were able to do 8am.

In the morning no hot water, came down to reception to ask about this- no one around and everywhere in darkness tried to phone telephone numbers no answer. We arrived downstairs at 8am for breakfast - just one chef around who appeared less than keen to talk to us, rooms still in darkness, restaurant and bar area had plates, glasses and mess from night before still not tidied up.
The owner/manager? came down shortly after 8am when we raised our complaints he informed us that a member of staff had missed their train- apologised and after negotation we paid chain hotel price and left having not had brekfast or showered. This could be a lovely hotel wih a cocktail cellar bar, but no attention is paid to the hotel and or its guests. I would not stay here again.

We thought the small hotel was great value for money for a late trip we had to take. Booked last minute, we wanted to be central, the room was just above average with a good shower and comfortable bed and pillows. The breakfast was lovely, lacked bit of atmosphere inthe breakfast room could hear a pin drop but couldnt fault the food, lovely, The car park was difficult we couldnt get our car down the narrow alley so parked on road further along. The Staff were lovely very helpful and friendly. We didnt have any noise as the bar was closed Sunday night and we were on the back as well. All in all we would stay again if we go back to Skipton.
