We were a group of 5 walkers from Luxembourg and we just loved it. It's an old Georgian House, renovated with style and taste and run by a lovely couple. We wanted our breakfast already at 7.30 each day to go walking - absolutely no problem. The vegetarian got the vegetarian option of typical English breakfast and the non-vegetarians got the bacon and sausages version of English breakfast.
Don't know when we will come back to the Mourne Mountains but we will definitelz stay again at the Belmont Hall.

Without any doubt or question we had an absolutley wonderfull stay.. it is a lovely family owned and orientated Guest house. They were so friendly and very helpful. Great value for money. We stayed for 3 nights but only had intended staying one night. We were very up and down with our plans and didnt know exactly how many nights we were staying or of us were staying in the room (it was between 2 and 4, one night there was 2 of us, then the next night 3, then the third night there were 4 of us) and they were so patient with us chopping and changing our minds which was great as I can imagine alot of other places would probably be like come on already and make up ye're minds.. :) Had a few great great chats with them and they were so easy going...

The House itself was Beautiful and very clean ( Not a cobweb or speck of dust in sight) Free internet acess and printing from a computer situated beside an idealic library/reading room. We went to newry to celebrate the birth of my beautiful niece and our stay at Belmont Hall made it all the more enjoyable. We will 100% be stayin there for our next visit up to Newry. Thank you so so much...

Needs a good clean, dodgy stains on bed linen, Musty smellm wafer thin pillows and duvets, smelly towels provided, filthy toilet and sink in bathroom, chewing gum stuck to the wall and dodgy orange things stuck to cutlery at breakfast. Friendly enough staff until questioned about the price then became intimidating and uncooperative even though there were a lot of us staying. Owner saw us coming.....Seriously over priced!!! If you read other bad reveiws...believe them!!!!! Thank goodness the company I kept were fantastic craic.......so I didnt let it spoil my weekend!

I can't recommend this Guest House highly enough. We checked out a few places in Newry and Belmont beat them all hands down. The Canal Court Hotel was much more expensive and the the rooms were tiny. The Mourne Country Hotel on the outskirts of the town is a joke and the most unprofessional outfit I have seen in a long, long time. (DON'T go there!!) Belmont is in the town, has huge (period Georgian, original-sized) rooms with all the original period features (window shutters, cornicing, sash windows, etc.) as well as having a full bath en suite. The house itself is magnificent and beautifully restored. We asked about the history of the house and the current owners, Pat and his wife - lovely, warm people, are the first people to to own the whole house since it was divided up into two houses in 1846 - the house is nearly 300 years old.
Aside from the bedrooms, there is a beautiful, stately library and the dining room is stunning, with ceiling to floor original window-doors overlooking a large garden to the rear of the house.
We just loved this house. The floors downstairs are all sanded back and polished to show off the original boards and there are two stairwells. It truly is a gem of a guest house, a must see.
As for the service, the people couldn't be friendlier (family-run business) and the food (full Irish breakfast) was superb. We needed a taxi and one was called for us, we needed to leave our bags somewhere while we went to sight-see after we had booked out and that wasn't a problem. They were truly lovely people, with a friendly, genuine Irish welcome.
Can't recommend them, or this Hall, highly enough.
Don't go anywhere else!!

On arrival to this delapidated property the owner took our money once we crossed the front dooor. He was then unavailable for the rest of the day and following day. Bed linen was dirty and damp. Cobwebs all over the rooms. Mould on the valance on all 4 beds. It reminded me of Bates motel I would not recommend it to anyone. Manager told us to leave if we were not happy. Owner never even returned our calls when we complained.

This place has great potential if only the owners would make adequet investment in the premises. We wandered around Newry after visiting friends to find a place to stay and were astonished at the rates quoted in the Hotels. The Canal at €300 for 1 night was just extortionate and the Mourne at €175 was just an unbeliveable joke at what was offered.

We were about to turn around at hit off for Dundalk when we spotted the Belmonts sign and decided to have a look.It has a very imposing exterior but needs painting badly.Big lawns to the front and ample parking.2 entrances into buiding , one for day time apparantly and the other has the intercom set-up for after dark.

A nice mannerly lad (Pat?) showed me to an upstairs 3rd floor bedroom and quoted a rate of €90 B&B for the night for both of us. Room was very spacious with 2 Queen beds, tea tray ,TV,and had 2 windows overlooking Town and rear gardens..Really quiet and peaceful so we took.

Things went downhill a wee bit after settling in and un packing , with an inspection of good sized bathroom -with tub- showing up an awful lot of hairs in sink and tub and corners of bathroom. Bad house keeping but survivable. It was after this that we got a slight hum of something in the room that got progressively worse. We seached high and low and it was only on opening one of the dresser drawers that mystery smell was discovered !

A very badly decomposing Pizza -discarded in drawer quite a few days before-was the source. What a pong!! The bedroom has its own DD. phone so we rang Pat, whom in fairness did apologise genuinely and said we could change room. However we felt once disposed off we thought the smell would quickly disappear and felt the room was good enough to stay on in. It worked out so,and in truth had a very good nights sleep in comfy bed. Room had plenty of heat on so no other complaints.Bath - once cleaned properly! - had plenty of Hot water .

Breakfast as pointed out by others was a very poor affair. Proper dispensing bowls/dishes for cereals instead of their original shop wrapping would be a simple start to ungrade things. Plenty of decent orange juices ,instead of the anti-freeze served, are readily available for a few cents more in shops. Should also have apple ,cranberry etc. Buy decent yogurts and a fruit bowl of fresh produce would not go amiss either.Set up a decent ,clean and presentable Buffet table and it would change things to a higher standard.

The Dining Room itself is very large and with big windows facing onto back garden could be a really great dining experience if the room was given a face lift. Old prints on wall were very depressing.

Overall as said, this place has really good potential but as it stands it bring decent Guesthouses into disrepute. The B&B sector has got a bad enough reputation without it spreading to Guesthouse sector also though sloppiness.

We felt at € 90 it was over priced with problems as experienced, but if a decent effort was made to rectify issues as pointed out by us and others , Belmont could be considered a fine Guesthouse and would be a far better option than Newrys grossly over priced Hotels.
