we stayed in this "hotel"2 nights ago,, i live in the local town and wanted somewhere were i could rent a room for a meeting and have accommodation at a reasonable rate, so we stayed here,, as we had our private meet in our rented room one of the staff kept looking through the window on the door, when i asked him what he was doing he said it was his job to make sure we wernt up to anything!!! then at one point in the middle of the meeting he just walked right in and over to the table, looked around and then went back out, this went on throughout the nite and to top itall of at one point the door staff came running through as a short cut to get to somethingsomewhere else in the "hotel",,
Then they closed the residents bar at 1:30 am,we wherethe only people staying and there where 35 of us and still they closed the bar,,
If that was not ehough when i went to pay for the function roonm i was charged %30 more than agreeded because they said we had used the hall for longer than we said we where going to, when i have rented any hall in a hotel before this, renting a hall for a night ment for a night not a few hours,,,,
worst night of my life and made my feel very stupid in front of my colleagues,,
DO NOT STAY HERE,, NOT CHEAP STAFF ARE NEVER AROUND AND WHEN THEY ARE THE ARE RUDE,,,

We stayed here for one night after a day trip shopping to Belfast. It was dark upon our arrival so we did not see the general dilapidated exterior of the hotel, wheras the entrance looks nice and is deceiving. The nearly empty car park should have been a tell-tale sign but it was late and we had been driving for hours.

On entering the hotel, the reception and lobby area is nice but was unattended for about ten minutes as staff is scarce on the ground. We booked in despite the £100/night charge for room and continental breakfast which would have been expensive even if the hotel was up to normal standards.

The room itself is very dated, with an ancient TV, outdated bed covers, curtains and a wardrobe that belonged in an antique store; yet all of which would be manageable if the management knew anything about hygiene. The low point being dried vomit on the bedspread and hairs on the sheets, clearly not changed from the previous guests.

The bathroom was very outdated, and there was no hot water, the shower curtain over the bath was all mould and stained. There was also a tiny radiator which did not provide enough heat for the room.

The breakfast the following morning was continental style which amounted to nothing more than tea and toast, and some less than appealing fruit.

All in all, this was an eye-opening experience and is by far the worst hotel I ever had the experience of staying in. It should be closed by the Northern Ireland Tourist board on Health & Safety Hygiene grounds.

AVOID!!!

The Staff are rude and abrupt.
There is no service at all.

Do yourself a favour. Book somewhere else.

No website. How can a Hotel work without a website???

We stayed in the Mourne Country Hotel for one night on the way back from Belfast. The cost was £90 which was steep enough. The hotel isn't attractive looking and was very dark when we got there. The first thing that struck you about the room was the smell........like visiting an elderly relatives house where they are too old to properly look after the place anymore. The elderly theme was continued by the old fashioned curtains and bedcoverings, a cheap 1970's wardrobe and dated bathroom. The bed and the towels weren't clean. We went back to reception to complain about the disconnect between the steep price and the awful room. The unfriendly staff member offered to include our breakfast in the room price! No remote control for the TV, no do not disturb sign. This is an awful hotel and the worst one which we have ever stayed in in Ireland. It is totally over-priced and if you paid £40 for the room, you still would feel ripped off. Avoid this hotel at all costs.....you'd be better off camping in the car park

This hotel is horrible, it is very outdated, freezing and shabby. I would not go here again. It is wildly overpriced. The only good things I can say are it has a convenient location and you can always get a room at the last minute which is not suprising. Unfortunately a lot needs to be done to this hotel to make it good value for the price they charge.

It was the worst night we have ever had, it was the coldest place in Ireland, the place was like a fridge. £100. for the night, the ballroom was very cold, no heat at all.. the bedroom was very cold, had to use the bedding from the other bed and sleep with my clothes on. no hot water in the bathroom next morning !!.
when I complained, they reduced the £100 to £70, looking back I should have refused to pay , it was not worth £ 70,
never again.

Excellent food, in pleasant surroundings. Really busy place with lots of atmosphere on a Saturday evening - Country Western Bands in the function room - residents get a small concession.
Staff were very helpful and breakfast was excellent.
