“Great food, poor rooms”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

A warm welcome was a good start and friendly throughout stay. The room (3 single beds) was OK but shabby and the beds were VERY lumpy. Shower not good either. However, food was excellent from their Spanish chef.

Having a caravan at the nearby site Twinrivers, The Cann Office Hotel is somewhere we visit frequently. With the friendly atmosphere and the fantastic food and drink The Cann Office is a real favourite for us. We have recently attended their Italian and Spanish Theme Nights and both events were second to none. The service and the food were exceptional. 'The Cann' has lots of events to draw the trade of the nearby caravan sites and every week there is something to look forward to. Our weekend would not be complete without a visit to The Cann Office. Keep up the good work!!!!

I'm just reporting on our lunchtime experience here as we have often stopped off here for a bite on our way to Wales. Our last year's experience was disappointing - we couldn't get lunch because they were preparing for a "Spanish Evening". But this year, it couldn't have been more different - the food was great, fantastic Ploughman's Lunch (with superb chips), nice beer and the barman and young waitress were both very helpful and friendly. New management maybe? A big improvement anyway.

We have stayed at the Cann office many times in the past few years, however we will look elsewhere in future. The location is great and the pub and food super, but sadly very little effort is put into the b&b side. The rooms are clean but in need of some updating. Unfortunately we can't comment on breakfast as we were told that the earliest we could get breakfast was 9.30am which was too late as we had an early start, we were given a £10 discount because of this, but it was still surprising and disappointing. All in all this could be a really nice place to stay but needs a little effort putting into the hotel side.

We stayed nearby in August (2011) but went back to the pub three times because we enjoyed it so much. Delicious steak dinner and with it we drank a bottle of "wine of the month" which was really good for a tenner. (Unbelievably good value for us londoners!) One of the local customers gave us a couple of really good ideas for nearby places to visit which aren't on the main tourist map. We felt really lucky to be staying so close to such a gem and will definitely call in next time we are in that part of the country.

We have been coming here for over 10 years now and we always know what to expect. You can eat at the Vyrnwy tavern and you have wonderful views, but the Cann sells fantastically good value meals at good prices. We have never be let down.

My family have a holiday home close to the Cann Office and had eaten there previously, midweek. We visited over a weekend and called on the Sunday afternoon to see if they were open for food that evening, having confirmed that they were we reserved a table. On arrival we were informed that Sunday Dinner was the only option available, not quite what we had in mind, but we ordered our meals and drinks.
The dinner arrived, 3 lamb, 1 chicken dinner. Potatoes and vegetables were served seperately. The chicken was dry and overcooked,l the yorkshire pudding was dry and rubbery, the roast potatoes had clearly been stood for a substantial amount of time and the new potatoes felt plastic. The lamb was good and the cauliflower cheese were good!

Whilst we were eating we tried to order another drink, but were told there was no table service offered and we would have to interrupt our meal to go to the bar!!!

At the end of the meal we were asked how our meal was, we pointed out the points made above - the female waitress walked away and threw over her shoulder "sorry about that", nobody then came to us to clarify our complaint to apologise. we were4 not offered a dessert, so on finishing our drinks we went to the bar to pay. Our complaint was reiterated to the barman who asked what we we thought he should do, this was whilst he grinned and laughed at us. When asked what he was grinning at, he said he would get the chef as the manager was out.

The chef, Wayne, was very professional, he apologised for the quality of the meal and said that had we complained earlier he would have changed the meals (we did not have an opportunity to complain), We pointed out how rude and dismissive the staff were and he agreed that they would be spoken to, he also offered my parents a free bottle of wine with an a la carte meal, that he would serve personally and didnt charge us for our meals that evening.
My parents won't be going back! My mother was in tears when we left because our evening had been spoiled and she had recommended the place.

Find another venue where the staff might be slightly more courteous and professional!
