“Maldivian Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

We stayed for a week in January 2013. It is just a perfect place to stay..excellent accommodation, brilliant location, great food, impressive service. We were just endlessly impressed with the whole caboodle.

Room Tip: We stayed in beach villas 123/4 which are near the Asian Wok Restaurant. It was less breezy on this...

If possible stay in a water bungalow and ask for the high numbers for the best location.
Treated ourselves to a spa treatment too and was the best experience i have had in a spa, Watching the fishes in the tropical sea whilst have a massage, cannot ask for more! Plus the chill out room after, aghhhh heaven.
We orginally stayed in the garden villa which was lovely but wanted to make the most of being in the Maldives.
Choose this resort you will not be dissapointed!

My husband surprised me with a trip to Vilamendhoo for my birthday. Since it is a busy time of year for him we could get away for only 2 nights / 3 days. Though our flight got in early we were shown to our villa by 11 a.m. itself - we were upgraded to a Jacuzzi villa as the beach villas were full, which was a nice surprise. We stayed at Villa # 206 which was ideally located close to Ahima restaurant, Sunset bar, the infinity pool and the Spa. Also this side of the island got the breeze. It was lovely to lie down under the trees.

The staff were very helpful and full of information. We were surprised for a resort that's always full at how clean and well maintained it was. Also the guests kept to themselves and we could enjoy the island in peace and quiet.

I was excited to see the sharks, fish and sting rays so close to the shore. Snorkeling over the house reef was amazing. Watching the sunset while sipping a drink at Asian Wok was very relaxing.

One suggestion - at least one bottle of water can be given to the guests every day. USD 4.00 for water was a bit much

Wish we could have stayed longer. Will definitely go back to Vilamendhoo. Can't forget the color of the ocean and the amazing relaxed holiday we had.

True paradise on earth.

Everything about this resort is amazing - it is paradise! We cannot wait to go back.

This was my first time visiting the maldives. Before this holiday I did not like the sea, but for two weeks you couldn't keep me out of it. The water is so clear and the house reef and snorkelling were absolutely amazing! We did two excursions - the whale sharks and mantas & turtles. I would definately recommend both - the whale sharks were fantastic!! I don't think we got the best day for the mantas and didn't get very close to them, but still it was great to see them and seeing the turtles up close was really great too!

We stayed in a beach villa, which was lovely. Always very well kept, and very modern. I would definately opt for a beach villa again - I wouldn't think it was worth the extra money for a jacuzzi and with the water villas you don't get your own bit of beach.

We visited the spa for the honeymoon indulgence package, which was brilliant.

The all inclusive food was amazing - a lot of choice and all very tasty!
The beach dinner was very good, but quite expensive and far too much food - but again, the food was lovely and it was incredibly romantic! The hot rock restaurant was really great. The Asian wok was my favourite of the restaurants and very week priced - we visited twice for food, and several times for the bar (in which you can use the all inclusive package).

The sea plane was a brilliant experience with so many fantastic views.

The only negative thing about the holiday was Thompson airways - they were not too bad, as the flights ran relatively on time, however we found the crew rather rude. They only did 2 services on an 11.5 hour flight and sat in the galley with the curtains shut for the rest of the flight so you didn't even feel that you could ask for drinks or snacks (even though you had to pay extra for them.) I found that try wanted to charge extra for eveything they possibly could.

Apart from the flight, you could easily et away with not spending any extra on your all inclusive holiday, apart from the odd tip. We chose to do quite a lot of things beyond the all invlusice but would have been quite happy not to.

I cannot wait to revisit the maldives and vilamendhoo - without a doubt the most beautiful place I have ever been and the best two weeks of my life! AMAZING!!

This place is absolutely stunning. Have never stayed at an all inclusive resort before, but as independent travel is not really possible in the Maldives we had no other option. But its absolutely blissful here, staff are awesome, island is stunning, marine life is spectacular. We stayed in 2 rooms while we were here, one on the island resort and one on the couples side- both were on the south side of the island which I would recommend if possible. Food in both funama and ahima restaurants was outstanding, funama had perhaps slightly more choice but the quality was exceptional at all times. I look forward to returning!

This was our third trip to the Maldives and first to the Vilamendhoo resort. As per usual, the resort in terms of range and standard of food, service, cleansliness and general ambience was excellent, with some notable exceptions (see below). The weather wasn't perfect but in our experience, pretty typical for the Maldives (only the temperature stays pretty constant!). We booked all-inclusive with First Choice and flew from Gatwick (not by choice, Thomson no longer fly from Manchester to Male). We ended up in one of a few non-beach facing garden villas (which may have been a consequence of booking last-minute), but to be honest, the beach was only a minutes walk away so no real problem.

The flight was the pretty grim - if you pay over £6K you should expect to be seated together and also not have to pay for in-flight entertainment. Ditto return flight - pathetic really. However, the sea-plane transfer was enjoyable (as usual), although we had to wait almost two hours for our slot (which was unusual).

Our only real complaint - which may appear snooty - was the type of UK visitor that First Choice/Thomson appear to be catering towards following 'feedback' (we discussed with First Choice rep at Male). This should also be noted by Hayes& Jarvis customers, who presumably may also have to interact with some of the undesirables we had to misfortune to come across.

We were disgusted at some the comments and behaviour of some of the southern 'En-ger-land' types during our stay. The Maldives is not Benidorm - if you wish to congregate in groups 'of your own (white) kind' and desire to drink/smoke all day next to a pool (without venturing inside, of course), go somewhere else and provide quiet, educated couples and families with peace and quiet for one special fortnight a year.

Although the resort provides a huge range of fresh, delicious local and world foods, even goes to lengths such as serving pork at breakfast and other meals (completely unnecessary and at odds with the majority faith of staff), some idiots were complaining about the quality of bacon etc. Other chav-tastic incidents included a couple on our flight boasting about refusing to pay the cost of their private evening meal (note that sun sets at 6-30pm..) on the beach because it was too dark! Also, despite signs saying that loungers cannot be reserved (German friends will love the irony), my wife and I had our bags/possessions moved while we were in the sea looking at fish in the coral (we thought they'd be stolen briefly) - inevitably it was a tattoed Essex type who was the culprit, his honour restored by valiently reclaiming the pair of loungers directly in front of his beach villa from the scarey mixed-race couple...

These incidents blighted - but didn't hugely impact - on our enjoyment of the holiday!

I should also add that none of the other nationalities (Norwegian, Russian, German, French..) behaved in the same way. I dearly hope the Vilamendhoo resort doesn't actively seek to court this type of UK traveller in the future and that First Choice amend their business model from catering for the lowest common denominator....

Stunning location. Rooms are clean and well maintained after a major upgrade 2 years ago. Love the "outdoor" bathroom, which is not really outdoors, just partially open-roofed. The beach villas are worth it. step outside and onto the sand. Detached is nice but semi-detached is okay too unless you end up with a loud couple next door, which is unlikely because the place is filled with ultra-quiet Europeans. The house reef is pretty spectacular and will be enough to keep you entertained for a week if you go to different spots around the island. You can even dive right off the shore which saves a lot on excursion prices. Don't bother with the excursions. We went on the whale shark one and there are just too many boats chasing too few whale sharks. The sharks dive down to the bottom when the boats appear. The food is a challenge if you are vegetarian. A lot of warmed up curries over and over. If you are not veg, there is a wide variety but it does get tedious having all meals in the same location over and over. Drinks are comparable to US prices -- $6 for a beer, $10 for a cocktail. If you drink a lot, get the all-inclusive. We used Agoda to book our room. Great deal.

Room Tip: North side rooms are on the quieter side of the island. Get the all-inclusive if you're a big d...
