Somewhat hard to review a place based on a New Years Eve Bash but felt it merited a review since there were not that many ....
We are starying at the Chateau de Challain and our hosts arranged reservations for us here on New Year's Eve. It was a crazy gala that we arrived at 10:00 PM for and didn't leave until 2:00 AM when most of the rest of the crowd (generally 50+ in age) were still dancing away the night.
Service was very good given that there were probably 300 people at the event. Courses were a bit slow in coming out but expect this was deliberate to let folks enjoy the music and dancing.
Probably 10 courses in all but here are some highlights
1) A few initial smoked fish appetizers
2) Wondeful homard/lobster dish
3) Flavorful and appropriately prepared venison or elk
4) Cheese plate with some of the more interesting cheeses we've had so far in France
So would love to go back for a more traditional dinner based on our own experience and the other reviews.
