Review of Grinzane Cavour Castle

Grinzane Cavour Castle

Attraction details
Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Grinzane Cavour Castle stands in one of the most spectacular settings in the Langa, just 5 km from Alba. The imposing building, erected around a central tower dating back to the first half of the XI century, can be admired in all its original beauty following the restoration that began in 1960, in celebration of the first centenary of the Unification of Italy. The Castle now houses the "Cavour" Regional Enoteca, the first to be set up in Piedmont in 1967. This is a prestigious showcase for the very best Piedmontese wines and grappas, foremost amongst them being Barolo and Barbaresco. The wines undergo a strict selection process before being displayed and placed on sale along with leading local food products. Tastings possible.

“Nice Enoteca”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013

In the past my wife and I enjoyed the fine restaurant here but could not get in this time although started trying to reserve over a month in advance. We visited the castle again anyway and enjoyed our visit to the enoteca with many fine wines to taste and to purchase.

“Unprofessional!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

There may be some historical and tourism value here, but the people who rent the conference rooms are the most absurdly unprofessional people I have ever encountered in my life. They offer a bid, then refuse to answer any questions about it. Just pay the 100,000€ and shut up. They ignore emails for weeks and finally make up idiotic reasons for wasting your time. The people running this place couldn't be more vile.

“Not to Miss”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

The castle of Grinzane Cavour was well worth it. It was easy to find and the views from the grounds were spectacular. The tour information included a history of the castle and local wine making. It was interesting and well done including a video and audio guide. The bathrooms were very nice, clean and state of the art.

“Great Museum and Enoteca”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

Well worth the 1.5 hours or so to do the audio tour if you want to understand Piedmont past and present. Suggest doing this toward the beginning of your stay to provide context and overview. Great views. Did not eat there, although they have a charming small restaurant as part of the museum/enoteca.

We enjoyed our trip here and the lovely views of the surrounding vineyards. There was an English audio tour which explained about the castle and its history
