“Still the best value for West Maui”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

This was our second visit to Kapalua Villas. The first time we went through a private owner, but this time through Outrigger. We reserved a Gold oceanfront villa, but at check-in found the villa that was assigned to us was neither Gold, nor ocean front (it was ocean view). I called the front desk immediately and told them I was disappointed and they quickly gave us several other options that were much more to our liking and expectations. Our stay was not perfect, but the small problems we had were quickly fixed by a friendly, professional, kind, and helpful staff. We've seen at least six or seven units now, and they range from "tired" to "absolutely stunning." The villas are getting older, so I would recommend staying in a Gold (remodeled) unit. Ours had a stunning, unobstructed ocean view, slab granite counters, an amazing lanai (outdoor living area), and quality furnishings. It was easily over 1000 square feet, and really like renting a private home rather than a hotel room. The grounds of Kapalua are amazing and the spa (which we unfortunately discovered on our last day) is both world-class and free to Kapalua Villa residents (treatments are extra).

I still think that the Kapalua Villas are the best value on the island. Hopefully Outrigger won't screw that up. Compare hotel prices in Kaanapali and West Maui and then look at Kapalua Villas. There is almost no difference in price, but a huge difference in accomodations and amenities. For us, KV is the best combination of luxury, privacy, and spaciousness.

From the rental company to the condo my expectations were exceeded. My requests to extend were answered immediately. The first night of my first extension, they inadvertently changed the door code. A midnight call to the property manager later we were in and headed to bed. The views were fantastic, the parking easy and the neighborhood quiet. The old lady next door must be accustomed to quiet because one morning she said to my girlfriend, "You might want to have maintenance look at that door. It sure bangs loud." We are very quiet and respectful renters so maybe she was just lonely and wanted to talk. Everything was well stocked. The beds were comfortable and the condo was clean when we walked in. It was so much nicer than pics I'd seen. My only complaints are outside the control of the owners: when they designed these units the balconies were built too narrow and considering the high number of louvered windows it seems like it took a half hour to get them all open. I am happy there were so many though because it lent itself to great breezes. I don't usually rent anywhere twice, but this time I might make an exception.

Room Tip: This is the only condo we've rented at Kapalua Bay Villas

Stayed at the Kapalua Villas for the first time and had a wonderful time. We were upgraded from a gold partial ocean view to a gold full ocean view at the Ridge Villas. The condo was spacious and well maintained and views were spectacular. We shared the villa with my in-laws so having a two story unit was ideal and provided some privacy. Kapalua is somewhat removed from the rest of Maui and can be pretty windy but we enjoyed the relative quiet and relaxing environment. I would highly recommend and will stay here again on our next trip.

We had five families stay at different sections of the villas. We had an amazing time and wonderful stay. The shuttle got us to and from where we had to go. Had a small issue with the washer and dryer and engineering quickly assisted us with replacing the unit. We stayed for 6 nights and it wasn't long enough. All of the employees are friendly and kind. Hope to go back soon...

Outrigger managed properties suck. There is a saying that the fish rots from the head. Everytime I go to Maui I normally check if they are the management. The condo is old and poorly maintained and heaven forbid you have someone with limitations. They acted so put out that we needed a unit with a minimum of stairs. They charge a $400 fee above what we paid that no one disclosed. They did that to us before at Kaanapali. They are crooks. The units don't get ocean breeze like the bay villas or the ridge villas but nothing says these are the golf villas or I wouldn't have booked them. Oh and they charge extra for room maintenance over two days.

Room Tip: I suggest you go to one of the rental sites like trip advisor.

Mahalo for taking the time to comment on your recent stay with us at The Kapalua Villas. I'm sorry to hear the Golf Villas did not meet your expectations. The Golf Villas host our Fairway and Partial Ocean View Villas. If you are looking to have a villa closer to the water, perhaps one of our Ocean View or Ocean Front villas would have suited your needs better. The Kapalua Villas are spread out over 22,000 acres of lush golf courses and coastlines, thus offering a wide array of view categories to choose from. All of our fees are posted on our website and we make sure to clearly notify our guests of this at the time of booking. I am concerned when you state that we charged extra for room Maintenance, as we never charge anything if one of our highly trained maintenance staff members need to respond to a villa. Many of our villas do have stairs, either to get to your villa or once you get into your villa. It is important for our guests to let us know if they have any limitations prior to arriving so that we can make our best efforts to accommodate these requests. Often when we are at high occupancy it can prove difficult to change your room assignment at the time of check-in.

I would appreciate if you would contact me directly so that I can review your reservation details and see if there were any anomalies. Ikena.hill@outrigger.com

This part of Maui is quiet and windy. But still close to activities, There are 3 areas for condos at Kapalua, While the Bay villas are close the to ocean, views from the Ridge villas are magnificent. Get a gold renovation, the standard is very high.

The condo was on the golf course, closest to the Pineapple Grill restaurant. The view was partial ocean, which was true simply due to the distance. Great view of the golf course, which neither of us played, but was beautiful. The shuttle service was great, and typically was available within 10 minutes of calling to take you anywhere in Kapalua. The condo itself was quite spacious, with a nice kitchen, living room and bedroom. The balcony opened onto both the living and bedroom, which was nice. Considering the cost was less than most hotel rooms (not suites, but rooms), this was a fantastic value.

There are two pool (that we saw) at the golf villas, and we had one all to ourselves when we wanted it. While we didn't have a chance to grill while we were there, they have Weber gas grills poolside for use by the guests.

Would definitely stay there again.
