Owner description: Consistently ranked as the #1 golf course in Hawaii, playing The Plantation Course is sure to be on every golfer's bucket list. Designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, the course was designed on a grand scale in keeping with its location on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains and offers dramatic ocean views from virtually every hole. Its lengthy 7,411 yard par 73 layout challenges the pros but it's wide fairways and generous greens make it very playable for the average golfer. With dramatic elevation changes, this course offers plenty of downhill tee shots. You'll feel like one of the pros when - with the aid of the aggressive slope of the 18th fairway - you will enjoy hitting one of the longest drives of your life. The Plantation Course is the site of the PGA TOUR Hyundai Tournament of Champions each January featuring an elite field of previous year's PGA TOUR winners.

“We love playing Plantation!”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

Every year we play Plantation, at least 3-5 times, when we visit Maui (we buy the "3-day unlimited golf" package for $599 which lets you play both Plantation and Bay courses as many times as you want on any 3 days in 1 week). The course is always in excellent condition, and a very serious challenge -- regardless of which tee you play from. Course staff is always helpful and courteous. If the wind is blowing hard (can be 25-35 mph on some holes!), you should definitely consider clubbing up by 1 or 2 clubs. Greens are usually quick (9-12 on the meter), and VERY tricky. The pro shop personnel is always helpful, and the selection of golf clothing is excellent and somewhat different from the pro shop at the sister course (Kapalua Bay). Plantation is on my list as one of the best 50 courses in the world. Also, make sure to have lunch at the Plsantation restaurant -- the eggs Benedict (they do about 4 varieties) are OUTSTANDING!!).

“Beautiful course”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

If you play golf and are in the area then you have to play here. Pay the extra for a morning tee time. We went off at two, and still had to skip two holes to finish because of the light.

“Great mountains links course”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

Carts are required for good reason. With carts, this course is not for the beginner or the golfer who cannot walk and climb. The vistas are amazing, each hole is a postcard. Some holes seem gimmicky - 290 yard par four? Against the wind it is a very long 290. Driver, five iron for me. The greens are only readable if you remember that every putt slopes to Molokai to the west. Well maintained. Good service.

Warning: Make an advance deal for club rental. $35 is pricey for excellent clubs, but $65 unacceptable.

Mountains, sloping fairways, generous fairways. Tough traps. Must miss! We lost very few balls. We took a ton of photos. And, I now know how far my 5 iron goes with gusting winds. Bonus.

“OK, but not as good as Princeville”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Huge, immaculate fairways and challenging greens. Very expensive ($265). Some memorable holes, but also some forgettable ones. Probably the best course on Maui, but not as spectacular as Princeville on Kauai or Manele on Lanai.
