“Best Christmas Ever”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

I want to preface this by saying my husband and I have been coming to the island of Vieques for 21 years. Every time we came we have taken a sail tour. This last time our family had the wonderful opportunity to sail with Capatain Sebastian and Nacky aboard the beatiful and expertly crafted ship. She is obviously loved and cared for and that is how we felt aboard her. Captain Sebastion took excellent care of this family if six. He catered to all of our ages and needs as they arose and seemed to have been able to predict the needs as they arose, which is a gift in itself. The captain kept us engaged and entertained for hours, even allowing our youngest son to be a part of the day by taking the helm, thus insuring the title of The Best Christmas Ever! He talked about it the whole day!!! They constantly served drinks of all types and also served a most delicious lunch. This was by far the best sailing experience we have ever had, as a mother of four old habits of always helping are not easily surrendered, but the captain quite gently steered me towards relaxation the whole day. Not only was the ship beautiful, the Captain and crew charming and entertaining, the Island waters captivating, but I felt that my family and I were expertly tended to and that is not easily come by..

“Amazing day! Best sailing experience!”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

We went on our honeymoon to Vieques and spent most of our days exploring the wonderful beaches and doing some snorkeling. On our second to last day, we decided we'd love to see the island by water and take an excursion. Sebastian was recommended to us by our bio bay tour guide (Rebecca), and it exceeded our expectations. We actually ended up being the only two on the tour, so we had the entire boat to ourselves with Sebastian and his tremendously nice crew, Destiny and Soleil. They were all very accommodating and we had the most pleasant day on the boat with all of them. Sebastian has great knowledge of all things sailing and you can tell he takes pride in his craft and making sure everyone who he welcomes on his boat has an enjoyable day. The entire crew genuinely were enjoying their day on the boat as well, which made it feel like we were just spending the day with new friends. The snorkeling was fun and the lunch that was prepared on he boat was delicious. It was a perfect sailing day, and ended up being one of the best days of our honeymoon. We HIGHLY recommend taking a sail with Vieques Classic Charter!

Thank you very much Sebastian, Destiny and Soleil :)

“Wonderful sailing experience”
Reviewed November 22, 2013

We arrived on the pier, were taken to the sail boat/yacht on a dingy, and met by the captain, Sebastian, with a drink and a story. This was pretty much how the rest of our experience went - pairing drinks with stories. Sebastian had a wealth of tales to tell - and in a British accent (in case that enhances your listening experience). We learned the history of the vessel, heard about our captain's travels and life on Vieques and some of his life experiences, and had a nice time of sitting around talking. We welcomed this, mind you, it was not forced upon us. I think if we had only wanted to talk among ourselves and have a silent crew, that would have also been an option, but the captain had too many funny stories (and self-admitted terrible jokes - there was a competition at one point as to who could tell the worst joke) to not invite conversation.

We were able to steer the boat and learned a bit about the mechanics (because we asked). Lunch was provided and, even though my husband and I usually dislike the type of food that was provided, somehow the potato salad was delicious (this coming from people who hate mayonnaise, so that's a win). Again, there was no shortage of drinks! A few of our members decided to go snorkeling, some to sunbathe on the deck and trade more stories. The snorkeling was great, even on a rough day. Beware of my husband's and our friend's mistake - we got on the boat and applied sunscreen, but it was still cooler in the morning (not cold - you're still in PR, after all) and we were trying to protect ourselves for a while from the sun. So our legs, arms, ears, noses were all covered, but he did not think to apply sunscreen to his back before snorkeling. Bad idea.

The day we happened to go was rather choppy, and some of us were fine and some of us.... weren't. Take the captain's recommendation and use a motion sickness medicine in advance, just in case. There are also essential oils you can apply to specific locations to help with this problem, but you must do it BEFORE you start feeling green. There is nothing worse than a boat trip where you don't feel well! Some of this may have been attributed to the evening before and the spectacular amount of consumption, mind you, so it was not all the fault of the waves.

We ended up cutting our sail short by a little bit as a result, but even considering that, it was still worth the cost. It was one of the prettiest boats I've been on, excellently cared for, and just an overall charming experience. Even the individuals who were not feeling great felt it was a beautiful day and even though they wished they could have been feeling well during the experience, thought it was a good idea. I had no seasickness problems, so I absolutely loved it and hope I can return to the island and sail with this captain again. It was a great way to spend our day at the beginning of July.

“The perfect day on the Caribbean”
Reviewed November 9, 2013

Sailing on S/V Shalamar with Cpt. Sebastian and crew is the perfect way to spend a day in Vieques. If you are not a sailor, you will have a blast aboard this classic yacht, taking in the classic lines and construction. If you are a sailor, ask Cpt. Sebastian about the history of the sailboat, and volunteer to trim the sails. She has massive sail area when all sails are hoisted, though she also sails well with less than the full rig.

An experience not to be missed. Some of the best sailing in my life.

“It was the very best part of our week vacation in Vieques!!”
Reviewed October 10, 2013 via mobile

If you enjoy sailing don't miss this opportunity! Sebastian and his mate, Nate, were so much fun to sail with. Our lunch was delightful, the drinks delicious and the history of the Shalimar was incredibly interesting. Sebastian even allowed me to do some of the sailing and snorkeling after lunch was great fun. Just remember to book early because it's a very popular tour especially during peak season.
