“Superb Bed and Breakfast facility”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

Myself, my sister, my mother and my aunty all stayed for 3 nights at this fantastic bed and breakfast property, located just outside of Kidderminster in the Midlands. The family who run the establishment could not have been more welcoming or friendly and made us feel completely at home. The property is set in beuatiful grounds and the rooms were comfortable, clean and easily accessable. I know the property is let out as a whole sometimes for the weekend; however just hiring a couple of rooms for a couple of nights is no less inspiring! A great place to relax and enjoy the setting and feel transported back in time! I would definitely stay here again, and again and again!

Room Tip: To be honest, any rooms would be worth it!

I should start by saying that this Country House seems more geared up to large parties taking over the entire house than use as individual rooms. On arrival we were met by a very young man who had no idea how long we were staying, which room we were in, or what facilities we were entitled to. After some investigation we were led to the "East Wing", and up a fairly scary set of stairs to an attic room. As can be seen from the pictures, the room is better suited to a single traveller, as my partner and I had difficulty passing each other whilst dressing in a cramped space.

The door to our room has no lock, merely a latch, and on more than one occasion our door was mistakenly opened by other guests, causing much embarrassment. Further, as the door barely fit in its frame, sound travelled easily, and privacy was non-existent. This also made leaving anything of any value in the room impossible.

Whilst the room did have a kettle, the pitch of the roof was such that it could not be accommodated on the desk area, and was instead stood on the floor. For the same reason, the desk was useless for working at, and my partner could not use the toilet without banging his head (funny the first time, irritating thereafter), and I could not sit up in bed or roll over without experiencing the same.

We were made to feel at all times as if we were intruding in a private home, and were unwelcome. There are no catering facilities, no vending machines, generally very little amenity at all. We were castigated for walking on a freshly shampooed carpet! (really, very poor customer service)

The redeeming feature of this week had nothing to do with Park Hall Country House, (which is in our view best avoided unless there are no other hotels to be had in Kidderminster, and even then we'd probably commute further to avoid it) and instead was a treasure called Leonie, of Leonie's Health and Beauty. Fabulous, friendly service, amazing massage and unbelievably cheap prices. Google it, its worth it.

To sum up, if you hire the whole house for a party, you may have a different experience, but if you're just booking a room, stay well clear.
