I use this pub as my local, so views may be biased.
Upsides: good beers very well kept, reasonable wines (you have to ask) and huge selection of spirits. Food server on Tuesday and Friday evening only, with Sunday lunches back on recently.
Steak night (Tues) and Fish and Chips (Fri) is extremely good value at £7 for a good plate of well cooked food. Buy some beers or wine to go with it and you cannot go wrong. Have not tried Sunday lunch.
Downsides: decor is in poor repair, it has been being done up for some years now, but never quite finished. Building is very old, lots of character, not wheelchair friendly. Gents toilets are dreadful.
Landlord is also a "character", depends how you catch him! His intent is to run a proper pub, and in that I think he succeeds.
Dog friendly, and generally very relaxed atmosphere. Patio to rear and Gardens to side for summer evenings, ample car parking round the back.
