We stayed at the County Arms for 2 nights at the start of September and used it as our base to explore Cornwall.

The new accomodation is excellent, we had room 12 which is a double at the back of the hotel looking over the car park which is still under construction and some lovely countryside in the far distance. On our arrival the receptionist was great and showed us to our room which was a nice touch and something you dont see often. The room was huge with all modern facilities such as flat screen TV, aircon, tea and coffee facilities and a modern bathroom with large shower.

The only downside to the County Arms is the food they serve in the pub, we reserved a table on our first night, the service was average and the food very basic, our starters looked like frozen food and the medium steak I requested was served very well done, really dissapointing. Breakfast was a little better but still not the best. I would have given this place full marks if the pub food had been better. I hope St Austell brewery improves this soon?

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the backof the building.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the start of August 2011. We used it as a base for the rest of Cornwall and actually didn't really spend any time in Truro! Our room was large, with a huge bed, tea, coffee and nice biscuits, air conditioning and a huge shower as well. Obviously everything was brand new, and the car park was still under construction but that didn't matter at all.

The reception staff were fantastic; friendly, happy and really helpful. They even lent us a mini fridge for our room to store some medication in which was a huge help. They offered to book us tables at the pub or in Truro and to arrange taxis etc. We ate in the pub on our first night; good pub food but nothing out of this world.

I'd definitely stay here again as a base for Cornwall. We stayed room only and it was really reasonable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel which will over look the countryside and have a juliet balco...

This is a fantastic new hotel. All modern decor, spotlessly clean. Large sized rooms with huge beds, extremely comfortable. Lovely shower. No bath, but not a problem for us. Our room was towards the back of the hotel and extremely quiet, with wonderful view over the countryside and a balcony. Air con welcome as the weather was very warm during our stay. Free wifi a bonus. The hotel was extremely good value for money. Had the continental breakfast which was good with plenty of choice. The pub meals were ok nothing special but didn't expect it to be for the price. The pub is very busy every night so obviously speaks for itself. Sometimes we couldn't find a space to sit to have a drink as all the tables were reserved for food. The hotel is an ideal base for exploring Cornwall. Staff very friendly and eager to help and offer advice.
The only small gripe would be the hotel car park, this is still under construction and very dusty / dirty underfoot when it rained and also we struggled on several occasions to get a parking space when returning to the hotel in the evening.
Overall though a really fabulous hotel and definitely would recommend to anyone.

The welcome at the hotel on arrival was excellent with the hotel receptionist showing us to our room and explaining how everything worked. The room was at the rear corner of the hotel with beautiful views, it was a very large family room, bright, airey and vey pleasant. Beds were comfortable, everything was clean and tea/coffee making supplies were plentiful. Food was good pub food. Very good experience. Will definitely recommend to friends

Hotel was really nice and staff were excellent. Rooms were really spacious and clean couldn't of asked for more. However the pub next door was not so good. Although the staff again were friendly and helpful the food was awful. Both meals we ordered came within 5 so had just been microwaved even though the description of the meals said ''home cooked'' We complained about the food and in all fairness to the staff they gave us a refund. If you stay here find a better restaurant to eat in.

Great place to stay, rooms are spacious, clean, modern and environmentally smart, the view from the back rooms over the countryside were lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful especially Kelly and Kate at the front desk and housekeeping - nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was great and at a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: Ask for a back room with with julliette balcony
