I have to say it’s is a very well presented hotel which is very clean and the staff are very helpful and polite, there is a excellent choice at breakfast with plenty of room to accommodate everyone if you pick your time right.
The hotel is very big which consequently means there are a lot of people staying there especially at peak times and the facilities outside around the pools and other outside areas do not have enough space for everyone and we had a struggle to find beds and a space to sit and having a small child with us it made it stressful, where you can find a bed there is never any shade as there is nowhere near enough sun umbrellas, the staff do try and help but there just isn’t the space.
They do have a policy to stop people saving beds in the early hours and in all fairness they do try and monitor this but it doesn’t really help as all you see in the morning are empty beds with towels and belongings on them and they sometimes stay empty for hours.
In the evenings you have exactly the same problem as you can’t find seats unless you get out early and stake a claim so many a night we ended up go to bed early and missed the entertainment.
They never miss a trick charging you for things such as towels everyday and even for a kettle to sterilise the babies water so I suggest that you bring as much as can to avoid these hidden charges.
Another tip is don’t bother paying for the Wifi it is extremely slow you would be better paying for some extra data on your phone as the 4g is very good.
In general it is a very good hotel and I’m sure it would be much more enjoyable in a quieter part of the season but I’m afraid it did spoil it for us.
I write this on our last day here having again walked all around the complex and having to settle for a small strip of artificial grass near the toilets which unfortunately do pong a bit today, roll on next year.

We stayed at the Lopesan Costa Meloneras for 12 days. Upon check in we were given a champagne welcome drink and made our way to our room. Prior to our holiday I had contacted jet2 and requested that we be allocated a room where it was quiet, away from the building works we had read about in previous reviews. We were indeed allocated a room far from the building works, however were put in a room over the delivery entrance and industrial fans. I do however put this down to Jet2 not knowing the layout of the hotel well enough upon passing on my request and not the actual hotel staff. We requested to be moved and were moved the next day, along with this request I asked to be put in a room with a king sized bed as we had just got engaged (I had wrongly assumed that when travelling as a couple, we wouldn't be allocated separate beds). We moved a day later to a much quieter room but still had 2 single beds, we decided to wait and see if the maid was going to make up the 2 singles in to a king but realised that this was not the case and asked to be moved again as there's no bigger romance killer than having to sleep in a separate bed to your fiancé. We were finally moved again and finally the room was perfect. I can't complain about the staff, they helped us move as quickly and efficiently as possible so it didn't really impact on the holiday as a whole. I would suggest to anyone staying here to contact the hotel directly with requests, such as ours, in advance.

The only problem we came up against that occurred in all three rooms were the uncomfortable beds (I would wake up stiff as a board and aching every morning) and the noise they made if we rolled over, they would bang against the hard floor and wake us up. We could also hear this occurring from other rooms. So another tip would be to take some ear plugs if like me you are a light sleeper.

Now on to the good bit...

The rooms are incredibly clean and well looked after, I've read a few reviews saying they need updating however I personally prefered the more traditional rooms to an ultra modern decor.

The staff are polite and very helpful, even with more personal requests such as ours.

The food is amazing, we went half board intending on alternating the nights we ate at the hotel, but the food was so good we ended up eating in the hotel more often than not. There is a huge selection for both breakfast and evening meal and a variety of foods on an evening so it wasn't the same food every night. To say we went in the school holidays and the hotel is so big, it never seemed overcrowded and there was no queuing to be seated for more than a minute.

The pool areas are well thought out, with different pools catering for different needs. The river type pool seemed to cater more for more active or younger people, offering organised sports like water polo and music. There was a pool down in the bottom left corner where inflatables were not allowed and catered for a more relaxed swimming experience. There was also an official quiet pool round near the mini golf, although we didn't use it. We felt in love with the lagoon infinity pool which catered for everyone, inflatables were allowed in the section that ran down from a sandy beach area which tended to keep children over in that area so the splashing and inflatables didn't cause any problems for other swimmers. There are only parasols close to the pool but the grounds have been thought out well and there are palm trees planted in the sunbed areas allowing for shade if needed. We never struggled for sun beds even though we aren't early risers.

We visited the spa on a Monday after being advised to not go on a weekend due to how busy it got. (Children are not allowed in the spa except on a Sunday). The spa was clean and reasonably priced for a full day, has its own outdoor pool and there are treatments on offer, although we didn't purchase any treatments. The floatation pool was our favourite part, I could have quite happily floated there all day. My skin felt amazing after using the spa facilities.

The area of Meloneras seems a bit more pricey and of higher class than areas such as Playa del Ingles, however if like us you like the odd night to be a little livelier, there is a taxi rank just outside the front of the hotel and the price averages at around €6 to Playa del Ingles.

If you prefer to stay local (and pay a little more for food) the hotel backs on to faro boulevard where there are a range of restaurants and a fab bar called the 19th hole (if you like live music check out Chris Mooney). A 5 minute walk away is the Varadaro shopping centre

All in all we loved the hotel, it definitely has a wow factor and is in a lovely spot, we would definitely stay here again.

Friends of ours had mentioned the hotel, having seen it on their walkabouts whilst in Melonares and said it looked impressive. Well, it ticked all of our boxes for a lazy week in the sun. The hotel infinity is the largest I have ever seen. There is a lazy river style pool, also. Kept very clean. Lots of amazing local restaurants all within walking distance. Located on the very long promenade it’s great for walks but can’t really use beach as it’s very rocky. Rooms of an excellent standard and suites are very large and good for families.
I am sure we will return.

Just returned for a week here. 28/07-04/08. Well, what more can I add to what people have already said? Huge hotel but not impersonal. All the staff are pleasant and attentive, always saying hello and smiling even when dealing with a particularly loud and gobby young English woman once. The hotel is very clean and you know it is as the staff work all day to keep it that way, from grounds people to room cleaners, they never stop: Wiping down litter bins, cleaning windows, and even mopping the interior walls! Nothing is left out. The grounds are impeccable and highly maintained. I have never stayed in a hotel which grew bananas and pomegranates either!
All the pools are worth a mention and had something for everybody so if you want noise, children and inflatables then the 'River' pool is ideal as is the beach area at the infinity pool. The other pools are more sedate. Sunbeds were never a problem, we always managed to get one. I think that if you want to spend all day, every day on one you might struggle unless you bag one early but anywhere in the hotel, you will end up with some shade at some point because, get this, the earth turns! I have read complaints of too many trees but you will still catch the sun despite these and the shade is a bit of respite from extreme heat.
I would recommend a pool or garden view room, which we upgraded to before we arrived. Ours looked out over the pool with the dog statues and was so lovely and peaceful. We coud also see the sea through the trees. The room was spacious and had a marble floor and bathroom which had a seperate bath and shower, clean towels every day and bath robes.
We stayed half board and could chose from the two buffet restaurants where the food was very good. There was a lot of choice every day and it wasn't at all repetitive. We ate lunch at a couple of the on site bars and on a couple of occasions at El Churrasco. The quality was always very good.
If you do feel like venturing out there is direct access to the sea front via some gates opposite the Lighthouse where there are many high quality shops and places to eat. If you need a taxi there is a rank at the side of the hotel near the sea front or the concierges will hail you one from the main entrance.
There is entertainment every night for children, a resident band and song and dance group. I did enjoy the band but would have preferred more latin music from them.
I cannot really fault this place and if there were any niggles they were far outweighed by the positives.
I heard that the hotel should be a 5 star hotel but there were too many in the area, if that is the case then it is a silly rule. This is 4 stars + and so deserves the 5!

Room tip: Standard pool or garden view. Overlooking the dog pool.
