“Great for a holiday resort stay and staff friendly and helpful”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

This hotel is a large 600+ roomed property with, as its name suggests, an African theme. It has an impressive entrance and the grounds are large with different pools to choose from and caters for families and couples. Rooms are large and many overlook the pool areas, if you want a view of the dunes you need to ask for a high floor. I was here on business at a Conference and whilst the hotel does cater very well for a leisure stay, due to its facilities and location (short walk to shopping area/restaurants/beach), it was perhaps not totally geared up for a Conference/business traveler (slow internet/charge for safes).
That said the hotel staff from Reception through to bars and restaurants and housekeeping are all very friendly and courteous and make you feel welcome and Martin the Public Relations Manager does a great job, attentive and professional.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor for sea and dune view. There is a charge for the hotel safe so ask at Reception...

Stayed for a week 9-16 Sept. This is a impressively designed, African themed, huge hotel. Our superior double room was spacious and well appointed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Pool areas are lovely, and we found sun beds for the two of us around the Lazy River at any time of day. Choice of food was varied and good quality with themed dinners such as Indian, Chinese, Italian, Spanish and Japanese, plus many other choices each day. Central location with a few minutes walk to the beach, promenade, shops, bars and restsurants. Would recommend.

I visited this hotel during a business conference having been to Gran Canaria previously. I really like the location in Meloneras because you are close to the sand dunes at Meloneras and the night time action in Playa del Ingles. The rooms are modern, clean, comfortable and located about 8 mins walk away from the light house at Meloneras. The food during my stay was great, the staff were friendly and I loved my evening swim in the pools.

Just returned after an enjoyable week at the Baobab. Holidays are often enjoyed more if the staff are attentive, friendly and good at their job, we found this to be the case with all the staff members we encountered on our visit. The hotel is excellently themed, looking and smelling very African. Rooms clean, spacious and well equipped, surprised our was given the 'Standard' rating!! Food in restaurants plentiful and good variety, perhaps some waiter service in the evenings would have been nice. Greater care needs to be taken by chefs in family restaurant, cutting raw chicken with same knife and board as cooked meats, whoops, not good. Lighting levels low which added to the hotel theme, but did not add to the enjoyment of our meals, not being able to see what we ate! Stair lighting also needs reviewing.
Moan over, great holiday overall.

This is my second visit to the Baobab Resort and was again very impressed with the efficiency at check in, I had requested an upper floor room overlooking the Lazy River however this was unavailable so was allocated a room on the other side overlooking the Chocolate Pool which is a fairly quiet location. The room is a pleasant walk from the reception and only took a few minutes. We were very pleased on the standard of the room and the view of the pool was excellent. The room is equipped with a good quality hair drier, super wet room and shower, wide screen TV and fridge with mini bar. We emptied the bar and replaced it with locally bought drinks; much more cost effective and nobody appeared to mind. Breakfast was the usual array of cereals fruit and hot and grilled fare generally very good however some items were at best look-warm by the time we returned to our table. The breakfast area furthest away from the main entrance is best and least crowded it also helps to arrive before 0900hrs. We took up residence at the chocolate Pool which was close to our room the sun hit this area at arond 1000 and was generally very peaceful no problems getting a sunbed although there were some early rises placing towels before 0700. Dinner is again self service and of excellent quality with something to suit all tastes again some of the dishes are at best Look-warm. The hotels location is excellent and the main shopping area is a very short walk away. This is an excellent family orientated hotel and caters well for children however it does not quite tick all the boxes for 5 star. The Villa Del Conde also a Lopesan Hotel ticks all the boxes for a five star and is probably worth paying the extra few Euros. Overall a very good hotel but not quite great.

Room Tip: Be Careful. Many rooms have very limited or restricted views, somew overlooking road or scrub. I w...

My friends and I returned yesterday from 7 days at this fantastic hotel. The hotel, services, facilities, food and staff were all '1st Class'.
We were very fortunate to receive an upgrade to our room but have to say that even if we hadn't been so lucky, my rating for this hotel would not change.
Without doubt, the food (we were half board) was amazing and we were never disappointed with the choice on offer and despite other reviews never had an issue with the food being cold. In fact, I dread going on the scales!
The hotel in its entirety is spotless, the cleaning staff very polite as indeed are all the staff. The pool area around the lazy river was fab, and the staff at the nearby bar were very attentive.
Evening entertainment is nice and the walk to other nearby bars is worthwhile.
I appreciated a previous recommendation on TripAdvisor that suggested emptying the room fridge and filling it with water from the supermarket - great tip to avoid spending too many euros on water! Would I recommend this hotel and go again? Oh yes!

Room Tip: Block 2 overlooking the pool was lovely.

THE GOOD
1.Amazing hotel design especially if you arrive in the evening .you will be stunned by the grand entrance and African theme ..the scent of sandalwood wafting through the reception area.I recommend taking a few hours to walk around the hotel grounds and interior ..surprises around every corner.
2.Pool areas clean plenty of sun beds, although if you want to always get that special spot IE beside the LAZY river i would recommend the towel on bed trick at around 8.00 ish. Also the grounds that surround the pool areas are well maintained ,limes lemons and bananas hang from every branch, You are given free beach towels which you can change daily .
3.The staff are friendly efficient and in the case of the MUNGO pool bar hilarious ..EDUARDO you are the man.
4.drink prices are reasonable .large beer 3.70 and cocktails 6.00.TIP give your credit card details to reception then you don't have to mess around with money every time you pay, just flash your room card .your bill can be viewed through the tv in your room.
5.The rooms are modern and well furnished THE WET ROOM being a particular favorite, huge bath and powerful shower .Cleaned everyday to very good standard .fresh towels and bath robes ...lovely bathroom products provided .
6. Breakfast ..Huge selection of cooked and cold foods ,everything you could need and a few more besides[pumpernickel???] .eggs cooked to order and my wife took full advantage of the free fizz.
THE BAD.
1.EVENING meal was not 5 star ..amazing choice and variety BUT would have preferred a menu and waiter service ..the whole buffet experience was all a bit dare i say toby carvery.food was often cold by the time you get back to your table ,and please can we have some fresh cream for our desserts .And playing hunt the teaspoon at breakfast is a pain .CLUE near the boiled eggs DUH.
2 .some areas of the restaurant VERY dark ..so dark that you cant see your food in front of you.get there early for a nice outside well lit table.
3.wi fi although not a deal breaker was poor ..recommend the richard burton bar on your way back to your room after lazing round the pool as there are very few people using the wi fi at this time.6.00 ish.
4.Room balcony light is hotel controlled ,so late nightcap has to be done in the dark.

So would we stay again ..YES. HOTEL is stunning evening meal must try harder.BUT we would definitely go again, but maybe just bed and breakfast as there are some very nice restaurants on the sea front to experience.

Thanks to the uniqueness of its architecture inspired by the African continent, its impressive water landscapes with pools, rivers and waterfalls, as well as the high quality services offered, this hotel shows off ethnic charm, modernity and refinement. The hotel’s main entrance leads guests over a picturesque wooden bridge to the reception area, passing a grandiose aquatic landscape with waterfalls. From the lobby you can reach the hotel rooms or the large garden area, on a surface of 56,000 square metres, in the centre of which a large 21 metres high wooden African lodge is located; this lodge houses a restaurant and a bar. Common areas are connected by an extensive sheet of water crisscrossed by small bridges. In total there are nine swimming pools (all of them heatable at different temperatures) covering a total surface of 4,245 square metres. Specially outstanding are: the “lazy river”, two artificial beaches, pools with waterfalls and caves, the “chocolate” pool (the name of which refers to its brown colour) and the “two palm trees” pool, as well as a pool with water attractions for children and babies. The hotel’s leisure and recreation areas are enriched even more by a complete entertainment programme with a variety of activities during the day and in the evenings. Materials used for the hotel’s interior decoration and design were carefully chosen searching the appropriate item for every single corner of the hotel complex. On the walls of the hotel’s buffet restaurants guests will appreciate layers of natural coconut and wooden bricks, as well as French porcelain stoneware on the floors of the pool areas. Regarding the hotel rooms an exquisite finishing with high-quality woodwork and sound insulation was chosen. Other materials which can be found around the hotel are dry bamboo, die-cut steel or coloured mortar with added shredded straw to simulate adobe. Rooms The rooms’ interior design carefully combines colour schemes and African ambience. The Lopesan Baobab was built on a plot of 72,000 square metres with a total of 522 standard double rooms, 8 of them modified for guests with limited mobility and 17 deluxe double rooms with pool, perfect for guests looking for privacy, romanticism and/or relaxation; there are also 55 family doubles and 15 family doubles with direct access to the “chocolate” and the “two palm trees” pools, as well as 8 superior double rooms, 40 junior suites, 20 senior suites and 1 royal suite. There is no doubt that the hotel’s different room categories can meet any requirement or need guests may have, since they can choose from comfortable standard rooms, spacious family rooms, luxury rooms or magnificent suites for young and old. All rooms offer excellent views which vary depending on their location, as for example beautiful panoramic views on the dunes, on the nearby palm oasis, on the hotel’s garden area or the island’s mountain landscape. Gastronomy The Lopesan Baobab Resort offers high quality cuisine in all restaurants, characterized by an elevated level of creativity. For this purpose the hotel’s select kitchen staff puts special emphasis on using the best products and on preparing them in presence of the hotel guests. The ‘Akara’ Restaurant is only open for dinner and its name refers to an African recipe; it offers flavours from the very heart of Africa with a menu committed to originality. The hotel’s second a la carte restaurant is the ‘Pili Pili’ Restaurant, open at lunchtime and specialised in paellas, seafood and grilled meat. Furthermore, there are two buffet restaurants, the ’Marula’ and the ‘Baobab’, the premises of which are conveniently separated to provide differentiated atmospheres where delicacies from international occidental cuisine are served. The restaurants’ wine cellar provides an excellent selection of the finest wines from around the world as a complement to the great gastronomic offer. The hotel also hosts five bars, two of them located in the pool areas; Henry Stanley bar and Mungo Park Bar complete the resort’s restaurant and bar options. Leisure and sports activities The hotel has at its guests’ disposal a complete and varied entertainment programme, offering something for everybody. Many of the organised activities take place during the day and in the evenings, when it’s just the right time to have a drink or enjoy professional shows on the hotel’s outdoor plaza, on a specially designed stage, next to the magnificent African lodge. Furthermore the resort offers a fully-equipped gym and a varied wellness programme, as well as other activities for sports fans. For golf fans the golf courses of Meloneras Golf and Maspalomas Golf are available and a free bus shuttle service to these golf courses is provided by the hotel. The hotel’s large panoramic ‘Karisimbi’ room is specially outstanding with a size of 1,002 square metres and a capacity for 800 persons, the perfect choice for any kind of celebration, conference or event.
