We were first introduced to Nomads Rest last November when it hosted an open house for the community and travelers passing by. The quaint B&B, (offering three guest-rooms and a full cottage), caught our attention immediately, and had us wanting to come back to try it personally. The decor, ambiance and serenity stayed in our thoughts long afterward so just days ago, (July 30th & 31st) we returned, and spent two wonderful nights at the oasis in Ontario’s Land O’Lakes region.
Located on Provincial Highway #7 between the towns of Arden and Mountain Grove, Nomads Rest is the only accommodation that we know of in the area and was an ideal location for us to explore cottage country and Frontenac County. The area is rich with local artisans and natural beauty, and a favorite of ours in the autumn months when nature comes alive with the changing colours of the season.
So how was our stay? Absolutely amazing!
We arrived in the afternoon and were greeted warmly by the B&B’s owner Linda, a charismatic woman, who began our stay with an offering of Sangria and soft music to wind down after our long drive. Soon, we were immersed in a feeling of relaxation we had been hoping for… gone were any thoughts of work, home, and the outside world… the moment was all about us, and what we would make of our time. There were no clocks, televisions or radios which left our imaginations to be nurtured by the eclectic arrangement of Asian, Spanish, French and other World music that echoed softly throughout the B&B. We were decompressing quickly, and soon the weight of the world seemed to lift from both of us… we were at peace.
We chose the Orange & Spices Room, which was a vibrantly coloured bedroom with a private ensuite bathroom and private terrace overlooking a pond and surrounding property. We would enjoy plush feather-duvet bedding as well as rich Egyptian cotton-towels and bathrobes that only added to our spa-like experience. Our room was very clean, and we found ourselves melting away as we shed our shoes and relaxed on the ultra comfortable bed. Other areas of the B&B were just as luxurious such as the sitting parlour where Linda keeps a crackling fire in the fireplace each evening, and the dining area reminiscent of a petit cafe where coffee and baked treats are available around the clock.
Nomads Rest is intoxicating to the senses as you're immersed in brightly coloured themed rooms, diverse music, art displayed by local artists as well as books and a creative menu prepared by Linda herself. Our breakfasts were well thought out and staged so well that you had to stop for a moment to enjoy the presentation before diving into them. Linda's efforts were more than we could have anticipated, and every breakfast was exciting and colourful.
To describe the atmosphere at Nomads Rest, close your eyes and imagine things as we use words like serene, tranquil, romantic and mysterious. It was a relaxing retreat, and while there, time seemed to stand still for us.
The service that we received during our stay was welcoming and attentive, and Linda was eager to please and accommodate us. She was open to feedback and suggestions, and she seemed to focus not only on our stay but to make us want to return. It worked, as only days after leaving Nomads Rest we've caught ourselves pondering our next trip through the area and perhaps another stay at Linda's B&B.
The price for our stay was very affordable, and we were surprised at how reasonable it was considering what was offered to us and the memories we were left with.
To conclude our review, we enjoyed our visit to Nomads Rest so much that we wouldn't hesitate recommending it to our closest friends and family. It's a B&B that we've fallen in love with, and a place that we would consider staying at for a week at a time... we loved it that much.
