The cottage, although a good size, has a cosy feel but is badly let down by a lack of care and maintenance.
On arrival we were disappointed to find very little by way of crockery in the kitchen cupboards.
Further investigation found the dish washer to have apparently malfunctioned resulting in it being full of the missing and unwashed crockery.
After emptying the dish washer and doing the washing up in the sink we placed a glass on the dining room table and had to hurriedly catch it as it started to slide off.
Further investigation found the table leg to have undergone a previous poor repair which had given way causing one end of the table to badly tilt.
A visit to the downstairs toilet resulted in the flush button jamming and we had to spend some time unjamming it and effecting a partial fix.
A call to the owner who lives in the house at the rear of the property led him to visit and undertake to repair the table the following day which he duly did.
He concluded his wife may have incorrectly programmed the dish washer and set a test cycle which subsequently also failed following his departure.
As it was Christmas week we decided not to bother the owner with the problem and to continue to use the kitchen sink.
On Christmas day late afternoon the boiler locked out and ceased functioning. Having spent some time trying to ascertain a cause and get it working again we reluctantly decided we had no choice but to make the owner aware.
I can fully sympathise that being Christmas day he may not have been any more happy at being asked to come to our assistance than we were at having to ask, however, we were not prepared for the severe show of temper he portrayed when he arrived and forcefully yanked the front cover off the boiler before also pulling off another internal metal cover exposing a reset button. (Something we could not have known to look for).
I can only say that our apologies for having had to ask him for assistance on Christmas day were not graciously met.
The boiler failed twice more during the course of Boxing day but now knowing the procedure we managed to do a reset for ourselves.
As I said at the start of this review the cottage has a cosy feel but unless the owner takes steps to carry out the necessary maintenance and adopts a more caring approach to his paying guests I would not feel comfortable in recommending it, precisely the opposite in fact.
