We had a family meal for 7 last Friday to end our holiday. From start to finish the food and service was excellent.

Special mention to John for the excellent service.

We were staying a few hundred yards away so tried The Boars Head for lunch. Surroundings are pleasant and the menu pretty typical. Service was pleasant and the food came out quite quickly.

A little more flexibility with menu choices would have been good. For instance only a 10oz steak is offered which was too much for my son. When I asked I was told that smaller sized portion wasn't possible. A request to switch a glass of wine included with the crab sandwich for a half of beer also caused consternation but did prove possible in the end though. Overall you shouldn't be disappointed with the Boat's Head but neither is there anything special about the food and service to make this pub stand out. Solid and reliable rather than special and different.

Nine of us called here having not pre booked, the welcome from the bar staff was excellent and accommodated us straight away despite being rather full and busy, when the food arrived I can only say one of the best bar meals we have had in a long while, the Lasagne, Scampi and especially the Sausage and mash were nothing short of excellent
