“Great eco resort”
Reviewed August 17, 2009

The Buena Vista Surf Club was one of the best resorts we have stayed at and captured exactly what I want out of an eco-resort. The rooms are set right into the surroundings, with open air sides which helps to keep you cool (as does the fan above). The mosquito nets at BVSC are not the type that cling to your face at night, they are unobtrusive and effective.
The bar/dinning/relaxing area makes the resort however. Marc & Marielle do an outstanding job of making you feel welcome and relaxed. Their Dutch directness makes you feel as if you have known them for years.
Although you are free to be as independent as you would like, the atmosphere at the resort is really one of interesting travelers enjoying great dinners (which Marc cooks every night with some help from Marielle), great drinks (mostly Flor de Cano) and sharing funny stories.
Despite having the word "surf" in their name and being located directly above a great surfing beach, do not be intimidated if you do not surf. They have boards for everyone, a good instructor and guests of all abilities. If you are not into surfing, there are great beaches, almost vacant, for relaxing just adjacent to the surfing beach.
I would highly recommend this resort and hope to make it back one day.

Check out their facebook page for more information.

Buena Vista is everything you want in a getaway. M & M your hosts are amazing. From fantastic views to super delicious food - this is a true wonderland. The waves were amazing for us from dawn to dusk and the boat trip they arranged was fantastic. We surfed everything from 3 foot to 15 foot waves. Sunrise and sunset were greated by waves a plenty with few surfers. This is really a rare place. We encourage everyone to go. The deck was more than imagined and our room breathtaking. Since we have been back we have told everyone they must visit this magical place.

Peter and Sarah give it four thumbs up!!!!!

I stayed 3 nights at Buena Vista with my husband. It looks great on the website, but when we arrived I was blown away - it is the most spectacular location and the design is simply stunning. The bar/lounge/deck area is amazing. The rooms are perfect - totally open to the forest but a mosquito net over the beds stops anything nasty getting you. The feeling of being at one with nature is wonderful. There was a big family of monkeys hanging out in the trees just by the property and they 'sang' us to sleep on our first night! The rooms are beautifully designed and I especially loved the bathroom. Marc and Marielle were awesome hosts and Marielle cooked up two delicious evening meals whilst we were there. The other guests staying were very like minded and there was great chat and banter around the dinner table. Breakfasts too were fantastic - something different each day but always lovely fresh fruit, yoghurts, toast etc.
My husband was happy surfing on Playa Maderas which is a two minute walk away - and great to be able to view the surf from the hotel.
All in all - I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is relaxed, likes nature and wants something a bit different. Don't stay here if you like big chain hotels with all the luxuries that come with such places. This is an eco-lodge at its absolute best and is the perfect destination for a surfer and wife!

We stayed at BVSC for three nights in June and had a wonderful & relaxing time. Owners Marc & Marielle are welcoming hosts that make you feel very comfortable. Marielle is a great chef and we looked forward to dinner every night. Breakfasts in the morning are plentiful and you will not be disappointed. The hotel property offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the beach, Playa Maderas, is located in close proximity to BVSC. Playa Maderas offers visitors great surf and a beautiful shoreline with amazing sunsets. We highly recommend staying at this location if you are looking for a little bit of adventure, surf and nature. We will definitely return when our travels bring us back to Nicaragua.

Even though our flight left Miami with almost 3 hours of delay, getting to Managua at 11PM the taxi that was arranged by buena vista was promptly still waiting at the airport for us.
The next morning, we walkup on this beautiful open air cabaña in the middle of the forest, with amazing views, closeness with nature, peaceful, relaxing and surrounded by wild life - It had a little bit of everything howler monkeys, crabs, birds!
Buena Vista is managed by Marc and Marielle a friendly couple from Netherlands. The place is kept impeccably clean, the decoration is in great harmony with the surroundings and small details like the quality of the mosquito’s nets make this place an excellent option with an outstanding price/ quality ratio.
The deck has an overlooked of the ocean and it is wonderful to sit on, relax, read a book or have a drink. Marielle's cooking was delicious. Breakfasts are fantastic, with juice, coffee/tea, toast, french toast, cookies, fruit, etc…
Playa Maderas is just a 5 minutes’ walk away where you can surf, catch some sun, go for a walk or just drink a great smoothie.

BVSC was an amazing time from the moment we arrived. The taxi was arranged and waiting at the airport. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by Marc, Marielle, Hustle, and Flow. Our tree house was just as we had expected, overlooked the ocean, and had a cool breeze throughout the night. We ended up having every meal at the BVSC, including a barbecue on the beach one night. Marielle's cooking was delicious and we looked forward to meals with the group. Marc and Marielle create an incredibly warm and welcoming environment. We were treated like friends and joined them for frisbee golf, horseshoes, and poker nights. It is a short walk to beautiful Play Madares where we spent our days. We had no concern leaving our stuff to go swimming, for walks, etc. The BVSC is highly recommended to anyone looking to spend a vacation in a tree house in the tropics with access to beaches, great people, and delicious food.

The Oleanda Beach House was the perfect location for our surf trip and I plan to return very soon. World-class views of the surf, short walk to the beach, wildlife on every corner of the balcony, and a serene setting made our vacation great. Oh yeah, there is also an amazing wave right there. I only wish I had stayed longer.

My hat is off to Marc and Marielle, who have this place dialed-in; everything is as it should be and they work hard to make it that way. Not only do they pay great attention to every detail (arrange transport with boards, call cabs, schedule fishing charters, cook amazing meals, etc.) they are also very laid-back and down to earth people.
