“Difficult to leave”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2012

What a wonderful place on the3 beach of Maderas very near to San Juan Del Sur. We stayed there for 3 days and absolutely felt in love with the place. The hosts is so nice and serviceminded. The place is wonderful and everything just worked perfectly. Our breakfast was just like heaven. We are not surfers so we had more or less the whole beach for our self.

First of all they are excellent host! Great conversations. Excellent breakfast and dinner(very healthy stuff as well) ,the best views! The tree houses are amazing. Everything there feels so easy going and comfortable you forget you have to leave. The beaches around are really nice as well great waves. I'll definitely be back there again sooner then later and staying longer. While on the crazy drive there just remember it so worth it!

This place is beautiful and surrounded by nature. My friends and I were just amazed at how unique this B&B is. The food is not authentic Nicaraguense, but it is still very tasty and offers variety. The owners, Marc & Marielle, were so kind and treated us like family, as did Kathleen and Jordan. You must stay here if you are visiting the area like San Juan del Sur (which its better than anyways; the only reason to visit San Juan Del Sur is the nightlife). The treehouses are the best accomodations you can ever think of! I saw two of them and they were both so modern, yet with an eco-friendly twist. If you are into yoga you MUST try it here because the platform views are priceless and add a calming atmosphere. Jordan was great and patient during the surf lessons..it was my first time and definitely a cherished memory! The pictures on their website do not do it justice..if you love the pictures, you will fall in love again in person. Although I didn't see any, there are groups of monkeys that linger around the trees. They can be loud in the mornings, but if you're a hard sleeper (like myself) then you will not hear them. The beach is a short drive or walk (we drove because it was too muddy from the recent rainstorms) and ate lunch at the taco restaurant- the fish tacos are the BEST!

Now if you are driving here you NEED a 4x4 and do NOT drive at night because the directions are a little tricky.

My friends and I will be back one day!

P.S- If you consider yourself high maintenance and not open to new environments then this b&b is not for you. On the otherhand, if you are into new adventures and meeting great people then this place is definitely for you!

The aim of our trip was to find a place where to surf, sun and relax and i can tell you this place is just perfect for this. Buena Vista Surf Club is a very nice and idyllic ecolodge with great location right next to amazing beach Playa Maderas. Tree houses are beautiful, clean and private and in the mornings you wake up in the sounds of howler monkeys and birds. The owners and the staff are great and they cook good food and tell great stories. Just take enough time to spend there cause you will lov it!

The 2 hour plus drive from Managua to Playa Maderas (4x4 essential for last bit) seems to take forever especially after a long air journey however this may be responsible for the quiet beaches and type of people (no mainstream tourists on package deals!) staying at the lodge. So maybe it’s not such a bad thing after all, no pain no gain!

The Cabanas at BVSC exceeded expectations. Well constructed with a wonderful sea view framed by the palm roof, natural bush and beautiful varnished wood. The ceiling fan wasn’t even used which is a testament to the design, which allows the sea breeze to float through. The deck at the main communal area is a wonderful place for a cold evening beer.

The hosts Jordan and Kath seem to be made for this; you are made to feel welcome from the instant you set foot in BVSC. Their friendly relaxed demeanour definitely had a positive affect on the guests not just their evening meals which are from another planet. Breakfast is a healthy and substantial selection enough to keep you going throughout the day. Dinner is cooked by Kath and Jordan and the quality and quantity is first class, ALL the guests were unanimous in agreement! After a few nights you start thinking about the evening meal during your afternoon surf! The local cuisine in the restaurants in San Jan del Sur is decidedly average by comparison.

The surf was unreal, warm clean water, mellow beach break and everyone in the line up was friendly. The beach is a short walk from the lodge and has a basic “restaurant” where your can buy food and refreshments. The walk back is a little steep (hence the 4x4) but at least you don’t feel so guilty filling yourself up at dinner.

Don’t let the build quality of the website (A bit dated) belie the quality of BVSC. It’s a well run and thought out venue. If it’s a relaxing break, exceptional food and surfing you’re after then you can’t go wrong with BVSC.

Loved this place. The deck of the lounge is an amazing place to have a beer, the cabanas were beautiful and the location is so close to maderas. The best thing was the friendliness and hospitality of the managers Jordan and Kath. They made our stay!!!! The food they cooked was also so delicious. Thanks guys

I stayed in two places during my time in San Juan del Sur, and the difference between the two experiences was enormous. Everyone was very friendly; we had morning yoga sessions together, ate our meals together, and surfed together. However, there was never a smothering sense, and if privacy was sought it was easily attained. My only regret is that I didn't spend all my time at Buena Vista Surf Club.
