“Comfort + good food”

Extremely comfortable but room needs refurbishing. Overall, very expensive but staff lovely. Dinner not quite up to expectations, the main course comprising of 2 miniscule pieces of venison with a soggy parsnip crisp. The best course was the cherry souffle. Dont have the sandwiches..£11+ for chicken and avocado in toasted bread, the chicken was extremely thinly sliced and had the appearence and taste of processed meat. Breakfast OK but both sausage and bacon not cooked enough.
Scenery beautiful.

From the individually themed bedrooms (based on famous artists) to the fine dining experience, everything about Ynyshir Hall is of a high quality. The service is superb and all of the staff are friendly and helpful. The experience comes at a price of course but the price is correct.
One of the owners is himself an artist and his paintings, often of sheep, adorn many of the walls.
The location is next to a RSPB reserve and the hotel itself has extensive and well-kept grounds.
It's a bit of an experience and we were glad to have it.

Room Tip: The rooms that we saw were all excellent and unique.

We stayed at Ynyshir Hall in September 2012.

My partner and I are fairly regular visitors to Relais and Chateaux hotels and as the standard of all these hotels is generally very high, it can be quite difficult for anywhere new to live up to my very high expectations! However, I think it's fair to say that Ynyshir did this.

First and foremost, service is really excellent here, with incredibly pleasant and helpful staff - special mentions to both Arnad and Louis. It was my partners birthday and they helped me with carrying presents, chilling champagne and making sure everything was ready. nothing was too difficult for any of the staff we met that weekend.Top marks there.

Rooms are all very different. I had a small issue with our original room (Vermeer) because it was above the kitchen and quite noisy, especially during the dinner preparation period. Before I'd even finished explaining this, we were upgraded to the Matisse room instead, which was prepared for us at speed. Both rooms were very eclectically decorated and had good facilities. My only complaint (very small) would be to invest in hairdryers that stay on, rather than having to hold the button down. As a female with long hair, this gets very tiresome!

Rooms are fairly expensive, but comparable with other R&C properties.

Food here was mixed in our opinion, but this is a matter of taste. Breakfasts were varied, tasty and excellent. We had dinner here on one evening and thought the choice of dishes a little small. the fish, meat, veg etc was all of the highest quality - on a taste basis, we generally prefer our meals to be a little simpler and not quite so 'haute-cuisine' but this is purely a matter of taste on our part - everything was beautifully cooked and presented. Wine list was excellent.

It's a really beautiful part of the world and this is a real oasis of peace and quiet. We were lucky with the weather and found Ynyshir to be really relaxed and tranquil. We would certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: 'Vermeer' is above the kitchen and we found it to be too noisy for our tastes, unless you wa...

I actually discovered Ynyshir Hall by accident but realised to my delight it was part of the usually excellent Relais et Chateaux approved properties. Apart from being nestled spectacularly amongst some of nature's most awe-inspiring landscapes and natural phenomena, the house itself breathes an exquisite calm over you from first approach. I honestly felt like I was coming home...
The service begins as soon as the car crunches over the stones in the foreground, alerting the courteous and ever-smiling staff to your approach - they emerge from the front door to welcome you (holding umbrellas if necessary or just a warm smile if not), relieve you of your luggage, offer refreshment in the beautifully decorated blue/red room overlooking the landscaped lawns... then taken to the rooms of this former refuge of Queen Victoria, one is in no doubt that the comfort will be unparalleled - down to the smallest, most unexpected details (a port/sherry awaits you on your bedroom table, by the extra-thick bathrobes in the uniquely decorated themes of each suite, named after famed artists). The staff are individually and collectively excellent in their observation of the hospitality one so seldom finds nowadays.
Art is quite the theme here, as the hotel features wonderful paintings by Rob Reen, hotel proprietor, along with his angelically enthusiastic and gracious wife - who leaves no detail unchecked in the running of this finely tuned work of hospitality. The cuisine continues the artistic theme as the chef here has created works of art from ingredients one might never expect to find on the same plate (foie gras with ginger ice-cream, tuna bite with avocado ice-cream in delicious gazpacho....even the breakfasts are creations of inspired care and imagination, right down to the home-made sourdough bread). Culinary genius at work. The grounds are an oasis of exotic and perfecty combined tress and flowers steeped in peace and calm of nature at her most soothing.
I simply cannot even begin to describe the overall relaxation and levels of sensual indulgence one experiences at this gem of a property - one other guest, who transpired to be a Hotel Inspector, remarked that he actually came there by choice as a paying guest for its service and the quality of food and accommodation, having initially discovered it as a secret reviewer.
Other guests felt pampered and attended to on such an individual level that it came almost as a surprise to find other guests in "your" house!
If you have any occasion to be in Wales, or are simply looking for an escape from the world in surroundings fit for royalty and celestial beings, then check out Ynyshir Hall - for a name I could not at first pronounce, it now rolls nostalgically off my lips with the greatest ease and yearning to return.
Thank you Mrs. Reen and all at Ynyshir Hall for a treasured memory.

Amazing setting and grounds with friendly and welcoming staff. The hotel is definitely dog friendly as opposed to dog tolerant. Great place for walking, especially along the nearby beach. Dogs are not allowed into the adjoining RSPB reserve but our dog was happy to stay in the hotel room which opened onto the garden. The food was excellent with only one small complaint - while the bread rolls at dinner were fantastic (we're bread connoisseurs since making our own at home) - the toast at breakfast was rather indifferent. However, as a non-meat eater I was offered some exceptional fish dishes. Well done Ynyshir Hall!

Room Tip: We had the conservatory room, which has a small sitting room opening onto the garden. This was perfe...

First off: forget "value". It has no meaning at this level; all is in the eye of the beholder. Ynyshir is a refurbished very old farmhouse owned at one time by Queen Victoria. We were quite thrilled to be staying in her Wales hideaway (with Mr. Brown?) looking over a beautiful approach and garden with huge trees Vickie herself planted. We enjoyed the best room of nine in the house, the Matisse, at about 400 pounds a night, including breakfast. The entire house is decorated avant garde with bold colors everywhere as designed by the talented owner/artist. His paintings adorn every wall. His palette is almost entirely dark blue along with red. Subjects, almost entirely of sheep, are structured in yellow and white. Our room, fittingly, had a well done large painting by the owner of a nude on a Matisse derivative many-patterned bed covering.
Our room had a large attractive sitting area and a great (for the UK) bath with a stall shower.
The restaurant is excellent but a Michelin star is not in the cards until the chef subdues his reach for the salt-shaker. Service by all staff was excellent and friendly.
Other than a worthwhile half-day to walk the paths of the adjacent bird sanctuary, there are no nearby tourist attractions of note. The two nearby beach towns are of no interest. Don't bother with the Center for Alternative Technology, a memorial to 1960's hippie economics. You heard it all years ago.

This place has one asset: the wonderful dining room. But the place is vastly overpriced for the amenities offered. Excellent service and meals, but dated decor, no minibars or wi-fi in the rooms, rather tired style. We paid 490 pounds per night per room and figured that was about 150 pounds overpriced.

During hunting season expect to see wild deer and local duck, grouse and partridge, and in summer Welsh Lamb from the Dyfi valley. Gareth and his team pickle, salt, ferment and preserve fruits, leaves and berries carrying the harvests through the winter and into the spring. Expect to see dishes such as 'Not French Onion Soup', 'Mackerel Sweet & Sour' and Gareths take on a Tiramisu all served alongside a carefully selected wine-list whilst overlooking the Cambrian mountains and Ynyshir's extensive gardens Ynyshir has a total of ten luxuriously furnished guest rooms, each with its own unique style and character.
