“My fifth trip to Italy and my fourth stay at Casa La Pace”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

I decided to go back to Italy in November and booked to stay at Casa La Pace for 10 days. What a wonderful place. If you want to stay in a place that they make you feel like family, this is the place to stay. Pepper and Rusty are wonderful hosts. I met so many wonderful people in this village that I am seriously thinking of moving. What a wonderful experience. This is my fourth time at Casa La Pace and certainly not my last.

Room Tip: All the rooms have wonderful views

Pepper and Rusty quite simply the best innkeepers we have ever stayed with. We stayed for a weekend and we knew from the start it was going to be quite an experience. The house is wonderful with great views of the village. The room had its own heating/air con system so we could be as warm as we wanted. Both Rusty and Pepper treated us like part of their family, their knowledge of the local area, train times, bus times made our stay easy to plan. Thank you very much boys we miss you already and anytime you are in town, give us a call.

Room Tip: All rooms were great,

There are no words to describe how wonderful our stay was at Casa La Pace! Pepper was the most amazing host and took us on some unforgettable tours. We knew Tuscany was magical, but this trip exceeded our expectations. Ghivizzano is a charming and "unspoiled" little village; the train station makes it the perfect home base to explore the entire region. The view from our bedroom windows was breathtaking...when we sent a pic home via email, they thought it was a postcard pic! Breakfast was wonderful (and very filling!) with excellent coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. We will go back to Casa La Pace again and again...if Rusty and Pepper will have us!

Casa La Pace B&B and our hosts Rusty and Pepper are exceptional and not to be missed. This was our second visit and it was even better than the first which was perfect! Ten out of ten again!
This is the perfect base for exploring Tuscany. The valley towns north of Lucca are an exceptional way to see the REAL Italy. With our hosts we met the restaurant owners who cooked our exceptional meal, the mayor of the town, the baker and the store keepers. They seem to know the entire population! You are a short train trip from the beach, Cinque Terra, Lucca and Florence but you go for the small towns and hidden spots they tell you about. Ok, it's not for the bus guided tour types.... it's for the folks who want to get out and see and experience Italy the way it really is. Of course, accommodations were wonderful. Host were charming. Book early! they were busy the entire 10 days we were there. You won't go wrong.

Room Tip: we like the "Victoria". Remarkable view of the castle on the hill and mountains and valle...

From the time we arrived at Ghivizzano we felt we had come home. We were met at the train station by a smiling Rusty and it just kept getting better. Mind you we knew we were in for a treat because of all the email contact we had prior to leaving Australia for our overseas trip. It was so good we extended by a night before we left home staying 3 nights instead of 2. We would highly recommend a minimum of three nights in this area and longer if you can spare the time.

The village and its people were so friendly and the surrounding towns, all very accessible by public transport were a must see. Our favourites were Barga and Lucca and of course the hilltop village of Ghivizzano and the castle. We would recommend you hire either Rusty or Pepper for a day trip to the surrounding areas as their knowledge of their chosen homeland is amazing as is the warmth and friendliness they show to the locals which in turn is reciprocated.

Back to the Bed and Breakfast: we booked the Victoria Room which was very spacious with wonderful bedding to allow for a good night's sleep, compact but serviceable bathroom and majestic views to the Castle and surrounding countryside. The B & B has a library room with a computer for guest use and a lovely sitting room where nightly drinks could be shared with other guests. Rusty and Pepper love to share the experience of establishing their B & B and one can see the love and care that went in to this special place. Rusty's breakfast is a treat with freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit salad & breads, cheeses and meats. Rusty goes to the shops first up each morning to ensure everything that is served is fresh.

Pepper is a fountain of information on everything local. He even helped us with suggested train times to get from Manarola in the Cinque Terre to Ghivizzano to avoid going via Lucca. When we went into Lucca for the day, armed with a very detailed map of where to go and what to see from Rusty, Pepper took us to the bus stop and helped us to buy the tickets for the bus into town and the train back. The B & B is very well located and once you know the way, the train station and bus stop are within walking distance. Don't be concerned about staying here if you don't have a car as the guys are very obliging in giving you an orientation as to where everything is. It was my birthday the day we arrived and my wife had arranged through Pepper, a bottle of Prosecco to be put in our room as well as dinner out in one of the local restaurants. Rusty kindly drove us to and from the Restaurant as we didn't have a car.

This is a highly recommended place to stay.

A perfect B&B for creating a central hub for touring this part of Italy. Charming, quaint, perfect property and the hosts, Pepper and Rusty, were incredible, informative, and entertaining.. Breakfast time was a special treat and the location perfect in a small village. The views from the different bedrooms were special and wonderful to wake up to each morning. Really good restaurants and shopping were all within easy walks as was public transportation. Everything was warm, comfortable, and inviting at this property and definitely CLP is a "return to" B&B.

Room Tip: Top floor (stairs) with a castle view facing the rising sun is a perfect room.
